........... sometimes you don't know the correct terminology yo properly search, and sometimes when you DO search it comes up with 47 pages (most of which don't even have to do with the subject at hand)...........

I hear ya. but if people would invest $10 in a shop manual (doesn't have to be a FSM) they can follow the pictures to the correct teminology and then use it when either asking or answering questions.

For me, sometimes the search pulls up so many threads that I can't possibly read through every one of them (it would take all day). very frustrating. I wish I knew more about defining a search to a narrower result.

Using a search engine anywhere can sometimes be a science in itself. A former job of mine included looking up patents, and at $$$$ per hour, I have to pick the right words to look for. Samething for for eBay, or Google, etc. Searching for "280Z" on ebay will get you what- 349 returns?

Mike-

another idea I had was if you could have small message pop up before you could start a new Topic, asking (suggesting) if you tried the search function before starting a new topic. Being a friendly reminder, it would help people to help themselves.

thx

.... everyone should browse through the archives every now and then instead of going directly to the current topics. You will be amazed at what you find and written by whom.

I like to browse through the older stuff to get ideas about mods or repairs, or suitable swaps. But unfortunately, if a topic is over a month or so old since the last comment, then people consider it closed, and if you post a comment, somebody asked why you commented on an 'old' topic.

THERE IS NO "OLD" OPIC! No information goes out of date. That's why we have the repair manuals. Some of them are just as old as the car! Even the 'car' is 100 years old!

I also think the Boobs topic should be closed. As some people like to say, we are about classic Z-cars here. Boobs doesn't seem to be related to a Z-car to me.

thx

opinions vary.

However, it is the most viewed thread on the site (by a wide margin) so it's not like everyone dislikes it, or agrees with you.

Since it's title is so well known, It is easy to avoid it if it's not your cup of anti-freeze.

Well then, Boobs topic should stay open.

2nd topic, tomohawk, you're totally wrong...I have never seen anyone slam anyone for bringing something up in an old thread....do you have examples?

The search works fine....ya'll might try searching an internet search first, cause a lot of answers are found on google when you can't find them here. Google is great for answers related to your Z....

Tom...where's your avatar? I miss it...and why are you looking for mods for your stock 280?

2 cents...I think the whole 350z issue everyone has would've been moot if they would've called it the 350ZX...

just my .02 dollars. heh.

Oh, I love the boobs thread!!!! I was being real tongue-n-cheek with my comment. The boobs thread is a serious grin! Its so "car guy". Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Lets see...I search the archives by keywords and the search engine pulls threads that have that key word included in the text. Three or four trys to find the old thread I am lookng for is not uncommon. And by all means, buy a service manual if you are going to work on your car! Duh!!!

For now own I will just read threads !!!! And use search engines !!!! Boobs was a real important thread and also the daily jokes !!!!! I think we all forgot the excitement of joining the club and our first posts and the search for knowlege how dumb the question seem to you was improtant to them !! Sounds like you are bunch of seasoned Zcar members with little patience for new members !!! How many more original questions can be covered !!!! Helping someone out is the essence of a good club and in fact a decent person if ones knowlege is saved for cerain occasions it is a shame !!!!!!!!

If you don't want to get the most out of the club by using all of the tools it has to help you, there is no way our patience will make up for that. WHen you need a 10mm socket, and there was one in your tool box last time you looked, do you immediately get up, and go bother your neighbor for one? No, you open the tool box, and spend a minute or two looking, then if you don't find it, you go ask the neighbor. The search is the same thing, No where has it been required that you exhaustively search the archives for hours or days before posting a question, it has been suggested that you might get answers to most newbie questions faster by searching the archives. That is as much to help you faster as it is for anything else. There is a saying about lerading a horse to water, but not being able to make him drink-don't be the horse that dies of thirst.
