its been 24hours sence.......i'm about to go crazy and I don't want to spend the $$ on a locksmith. I've tried the coathanger for hours. I've tried many different keys. Nail file. I would go buy a slim jim but if I can't get it with a coat hanger would a slim jim make a difference? Any other suggestions are very much appreciated! :)

I thought it was impossible to lock your keys in a first gen Z....how'd you manage that?

You can't lock the doors unless they're already closed....

find a mobile locksmith in the yellow pages, its like $30 bucks. Sometimes you have to pay

Use the coathanger. Put a 1" 90 degree bend at the bottom (L shape). Slide it between the glass and the rubber trim. Point the bend towards the rear. Go down about 18". Try grabbing the lock mechanism as it comes from the keylock. You can also remove the rubber trim so you can see what your doing.

well I got it unlocked. But the thing is I don't know what I did to get it unlocked :) I tryed and tryed with the coat hanger but finally gave up and decieded to buy a slim jim. I went to autozone, they didn't carry slim jims, I went to pep boys, they didn't carry slim jims, went to O'Reilliys and they had a door lock opener. The door lock opener wasn't working too well and I gave up with it too. Then I pulled on the door handle, and it OPENED! I never noticed the lock knob come up. So I could of gotten it with the coat hanger all along! So I might of wasted all that time driving around town and spent $10 on the door lock opener for no reason..........

hahah good job spudea. thats funny.

BTW, are you sure your locking mech. is working right?

its impossible to lock my doors unless the door is completely closed. that helps me cause with my new weather stripping, if i open the passenger door from the drivers seat, and close it, i can just press the locking button to see if ive closed it all the way.

P.S.- did you post this on zcar.com? they would probbaly make fun of you. ha.

Hey bubbleguinea! So on yours you can't even press down on the lock knobs unless the door is closed? On mine I can press them down when the door is open but on the driver side I have to hold the exterior handle up when I close the door or the lock will pop back up. On the passanger side I don't have to hold the exterior handle up. So I dunno what is up. Yeah I posted it on zcar.com but I didn't get much help from there except towards the end a nice fellow posted a pic of the locking mechanism and where I needed to hook the coat hanger on. But Ed here helped me with how to work the coat hanger.

Actually I know what he did....

He locked both doors with the hatch up (hatch was locked while in the upright position.

He was inside when he locked the doors, then left the keys in the ignition and crawled out the hatch and slammed it.

I swear that's what happened. LOL

If you doors lock without being closed first, there is something malfunctioning with your lock mechanisms...

I would recommend what I do...tape 2 keys (of your 2 cars) sandwiched between 2 credit card style plastic cards and put in wallet. I have never locked my keys in my cars when I do this!

Just my .02 dollars.
