May 1, 200519 yr comment_122254 I thought mini CD's were dying with the advent of MP3's? Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15754-ditching-the-old-radio-question-about-mounts/?&page=2#findComment-122254 Share on other sites
May 1, 200519 yr comment_122263 Your prolly right. I was just thinking that the 3" disc format might make it possible to still have the ability to play CD/MP3/WMA files without having to hack the console to fit modern sized players. I was thinking more of the 3" CD's as opposed to Sony's mini-disc format. I'm torn on this one. FM radio here in S. Florida is horrible, so I've come to love my mp3's. OTOH, I don't particularly like the idea of hacking the dash up. Going with a hidden system is an option, but a PITA frankly. Maybe the answer is just to wait until someone decides that people will want a hardrive in thier car stereo ala iPods. Hey, what about making it wireless too, so I can just DL files to the car when it's in the garage! :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15754-ditching-the-old-radio-question-about-mounts/?&page=2#findComment-122263 Share on other sites

May 1, 200519 yr comment_122269 You can probaly get a preamp thing that will have the smaller size you want. Then you will just need a wired pigtail to connect to your MP3 player which is definitely portable. May 2, 200519 yr comment_122283 the FM transmitters I have come across all ended up sounding like arse.I would suggest just using the hard-wired inputs you can find on many receivers. A previous owner already did a fair amount of hacking to the center console, so at this point I am not too concerned about that. I stuck a cheap panasonic cd/mp3 player in last year and haven't had any troubles. May 2, 200519 yr comment_122284 the FM transmitters I have come across all ended up sounding like arse.Often the problem is that they only give you a couple of stations to choose from so there may be crosstalk. The griffin iTrip unit for the iPod allows you to tune it to every possible station so you can find one that's not in use. Here in Atlanta I had to try every single possible station in order to find one that was completely clean. It works very well.http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15754-ditching-the-old-radio-question-about-mounts/?&page=2#findComment-122284 Share on other sites
May 2, 200519 yr comment_122290 Apple came out with a mini computer type thing that is standard DIN sized so it will fit in the stock stereo location of cars. It has like a 120 gig hard drive I believe and has the Apple OS and can run other things in your car like a full computer system plus store oddeles of MP3's. Technology is moving in leaps and bounds, huh?Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15754-ditching-the-old-radio-question-about-mounts/?&page=2#findComment-122290 Share on other sites
May 2, 200519 yr comment_122294 You can get a new cd head unit that reads cd's in MP3 format (data format I mean). When you burn the cd in data format you can fit about 700mbs of music on one cd (depending on your cd-r), which is a whole lot of music. Why change to a disc that can only hold 300mb when you can do this with 700mb? May 2, 200519 yr comment_122330 Anything with a hard drive in there bscares me. I would imagine the head crashing when you hit a bump, and trashiung the whole thing. That's why I won't take my laptop with the GPS and maps when I drive.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15754-ditching-the-old-radio-question-about-mounts/?&page=2#findComment-122330 Share on other sites
