antennae install

Forgive me if this isn't the correct forum for this. My '75 280Z is in need of viagra and can't keep, well you know. The antennae was probably a power antennae but needs replaced. Call me strange but I was wanting to out a smaller rubberish black on on there. I found on at AutoZone and picked it up but....how does one install it?

I'm guessing I need to take off the interior panel in the hatch and then go through the hole and bolt it on. It was late when I looked last night, but I didn't see any screw holes for the inner hatch side to remove it to get to the antennae housing. How does this come off?

Better question, the antennae cable that goes to the radio....how does it route? Though the door jam or through the center consol? I'm pretty certain the pathetic amount of cable they provided isn't going to be enough to get to the radio so I'll need an extension, right? Where does one put the slack, or would you cute and splice for exact fit? Any tips would be appreciated here. Thanks.

The cable runs along the floor on the driver side along the rocker . It enters the doglegg just in back of the door. To access the area that has the antenna the pannel must come off. The antenna'a offered today are wired differently . escanlon can help with this. The ''rivets'' that hold the pannel and several trim pieces have a hole in the center. There is a small plastic pin that was inserted at the factory , it expands the rivet causing it to hold . Insert a small rod , or what ever in the hole and push the pin out and the rivet will release. Before you worry about the length of the cable remove the pannel . There should be a connection there at the antenna to plug into. Gary

If there is a connection there for the existing cabling to plug into, would I be best just to plug into this, or should I replace it all if I am putting a new antennae and a new stereo in the car?
