What Z's are genuine Z's?

Correct me if I'm wrong Carl but, hasn't this subject been flogged to death in the past ???.

There are as many differing opinions as there are Zed car enthusiasts.

If a bloke is honestly enthusiastic about his Zed, I'm not going to tell him it's not a true Zed.

The same question could be put to the owners of MG's, Jags, Mustangs and literally dozens of other marques, receiving similar answers.

IMHO, the more fiddling around, installing different engines, gear boxes, diffs, seating etc., the less of a TRUE Zed it becomes. But that's just MY opinion and I'll never tell someone he's a bloody fool because his opinion differs from mine because, ...HE MIGHT BE RIGHT !!!!

It's really a moot point.

As usual you are correct Rick. Subject has been beaten to death a number of times.

It's not worth bothering with anymore either. The people who are correct, know it, and the ones who are wrong will never figure it out. Everyone has their own opinion and at the end of the day none of the opinions matter to anyone but the owner of said opinion.

I think only the S30's count as real Z cars. They were cheap, fun and reliable and were a hit. Not to mention COOL! Personally I love older cars, I beleive that that they have more character!

Once the name changed to ZX the image changed. The car was more refined and classy. From the 300ZX on they V6's instead of the inline 6 engines. And now the 350Z. WOW! Its Awsome.

As the saying goes if it has the Z on it, it must count as a real ZED. In Japan they were always called the Fairlady Z. Over time the Z's imaged changed and Nissan wanted the Z to be their Flagship sports car (outside Japan anyway). It's had to evolve to keep up with the demands of an ever growing and changing market.

To play with the big boys you have to be one, but that takes the Z away from the everyday guys who don't have 45g's. I can't afford it as well. Thats the sad part and it could be the real issue behind all these posts about "Whats a real Z car?"

I don't mean to offend or attack anyone. This's just what I'm think'in right now!

When can a Z loose its Zness. IMO they stop being a Z when a big chunk of American iron is placed under the hood. IMO the inline 6 is the heart of the Z, no v-8's or 6's or turboed 4's and rotery power plants. I do prefer a N/A engine too, a 3.2 litre stroker is ok with me as well. The IRS should remain nissan, no Corvette stuff. Why not buy a Corvette instead of putting an entire Corvette drive train into a Z body that must be highly modified just to make it all fit? I guess it is a compliment that people choose to make a Corvette looke like a Z though. LOL

Hey Chickenwafer!

I'm glad you started out this thread with your conversation of "Lust, Then Love". The white 240 in the book is a Vintage Z Restoration car. In my opinion, "Lust, then Love" is required reading for anyone who might pretend to be a Z fanatic. I think a lot of the 350Z and I will point out that it is a lot closer to the original Z concept than most give it credit. The book is well worth the price and is an excellent piece of Nissan propa...promotion. I seriously recommend it.

I looked up what $3,600 in 1970 dollars would buy today and you can hardly buy any new car today for $17,000, so comparing price is irrelevant.

The Porsche guys argue about this all the time. It basically boils down to the wind-suckers vs. the water-haulers. The bottom line is that a Z is a Z, but you all know that I'm a House of DAT kind of guy.

This topic seems like a no-brainer on this "Classic Z-car" website. I would thus assume that the S30 would be the automatic answer by all. I was also expecting some heat between some opinions because of how sensitive some people are on this subject.

I personally prefer the older,"classic" cars because those are real cars that YOU drive, not ones that drive you. Even the honorable Sir Sterling Moss mentioned that all the technology ruins the driving experience. The art of driving the car comes from the "seat of the driver's pants."
