Posted May 7, 200222 yr comment_6761 I've got some 6x9 pioneers mounted in the storage bin.. a problem is that the carpet that goes over the speakers dampens the sound, if you were to mount in the storage bin, you might consider customizing the carpet to free up the speakers. May 30, 200222 yr comment_8027 When you say mounted, what do you mean..? I've been thinking of that idea as well, I have a early 74 260..I just haven't found a clever enough way to "mount" them permanently. As for the carpeting, I need to replace the rear carpeting anyway. I'm thinking about simply removing the storage bin doors, cutting out the sections of rug where the speakers face out and sewing or gluing some sort of grillwork to the bottom of the carpeting..Any ideas..? May 30, 200222 yr Author comment_8029 i used ply wood to screw the speakers into, then i screwed the wood down to sheet metal and sealed it up with gasket maker. What I want to do is cut out the capret in the same size as the speaker then take it to some one who can sew a border, similar to the carpets border, around the hole. May 31, 200222 yr comment_8047 Po did the same to my 260. removed lids from the stow boxes & screwed 6x9's in, over the carpet- the downside is removing the speakers to remove the carpeting (but then, how often do you take out the hatch carpet?)Jeremiah Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1581-storage-mount/#findComment-8047 Share on other sites
