White Guage Face Opinions? Ricey?

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that wire guage and instrument gauge weren't spelled the same way. I always spelled both gauge. Learn something new almost every day!

EDIT: Actually after checking www.dictionary.com I'm not so sure you're correct. Guage doesn't show up at all and gauge is also used for wire size. Which actually makes sense that they'd be the same considering that the wire "gauge" has to do with size or measurement, just like a temperature gauge etc. I think I'll stick with gauge in all cases (except maybe when I refer to sewing machines since I'm not sure about that one ).

this is not rice IMO. Rice is if you do something that serves no porpose, OR if you think this is going to make you faster. And I don't believe anyone here thinks white faced gauges are going to make you faster (unless they're calibrated wrong ).

But back to the point, I think they look great. Like others pointed out, white faced gauges started out on older vintage cars then died, and now it's back. I think they look great, they're easier to read, and give a kind of "custom" look to the interior and doesn't make it so dull.

I like them and want to put them in my Z some day when I pull the dash to have it redone (cracks and all) but two things that concern me...

1) I have a series I and would have to have the right overlays (i.e. the speedo starting at 20mph)

2) I want them to be durable and not fade, discolor, curl up, peal off etc. once installed

Allan, I also have a series 1 and have added the white face overlays. Re: question #2, not an issue if you are very careful with prep and installation. Re: question #1, there is no correct overlay (that I'm aware of) for the series 1 speedo. The speedometer will not start at 20mph and the high beam indicator lense will be covered over...but you can still see it through the overlay when illuminated. I said, what the heck and installed them anyway...they still look great IMO.

White face gauges have been around a loooooooong time. I've always thought they looked great. Besides, it's your car. Do whatever suites you.

oh i forgot to ask. Did anyone install these and did they ever end up peeling or fading or get damaged or something?

I my self don't realy care for them in the car. Due to the fact that one of my favorite parts of my Z is driving at night and having very little light in the car. I love the darkness of the inside I feal more stealthy.

I have a set I will be installing in my 240z. My car is white exterior so I think white gauges will look natural. I have bought red bulbs to go behind.

I have not yet installed them. For anyone that has done this, I would appreciate any instructions, tips or any help in doing so.

I planned to paint my needles black, but the picture on page 1 with red needles looks pretty good to.

What do you guys think?
