Posted May 9, 200519 yr comment_123110 s12-8 calipers 4 pots (non vented) DO fit over standard 4.5 and 5 inch datsun steel wheels with no spacers.Just a bit of info for those who might want to fit the larger calipers on their cars but still retain the possibility of putting the standard wheels and hubcaps on for shows etc. I could find no info on this before and ended up buying a secondhand set and trying them on my car.Hope it helpsAndrew Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15852-toyota-4-pot-calipers/ Share on other sites
May 9, 200519 yr comment_123138 Thanks for the info. That is good to know. Do you still have to cut the dust shields to make them fit?Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15852-toyota-4-pot-calipers/#findComment-123138 Share on other sites
May 9, 200519 yr comment_123140 Yes. Whether you use the S12-8 (for solid rotors) or S12-W (for vented rotors) calipers, the backing plates (dust shields) need to be cut to allow the 4 piston calipers to fit. I left the shields off mine because I didn't want to cut them, so I should have mentioned this.Andrew Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15852-toyota-4-pot-calipers/#findComment-123153 Share on other sites
May 9, 200519 yr comment_123193 Andrew, Be advised that this modification is a good street car mod. The addition to SS flex lines and a set of good pads will improve it a bit more. However, with the addition of increased friction capability also comes the addition of heating up the non vented stock rotor much quicker. There is also the additional weight of the bigger calipers too. So, for street only applications, this modification is a cost effective upgrade. Just some food for thought! May 10, 200519 yr Author comment_123260 240zxthanks for that. I have heard this from others too. I know that the 'improved' brakes are not really up to track day use, but make a huge difference on the road, where most of my driving would be. Presumably though better pads would only make any hard use fade problems worse if the disk is the weak point? cheersAndrewAndrew, Be advised that this modification is a good street car mod.
