Posted May 9, 200519 yr comment_123163 Has anyone every gone to hydro boost brakes? I did this in my 67 Bronco and they are great brakes, less effort than any power booster will ever produce. I am pretty sure that there would be enough room to do this conversion just curious. You would have to have a power steering pump added and you could use a donor hydro booster off a 76-78 Lincoln or there are plenty in Astro vans and other Ford vehicles. I don't know maybe most Z owners would think this is sacrilege or maybe not?Blackjack Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15858-hydro-boost/ Share on other sites
May 9, 200519 yr comment_123194 Waylon, I think the Hydro-boost system is probably a good idea for trucks and bigger heavier vehicle, but at least on early Z's, without power steering, it would be a bigger chore installing a power steering pump and getting the Hydro-boost mechanism to interface with the stock Z brake pedal. Don't get me wrong....it would probably work fine, but for the hassel it would take to install it and the addition of probably 50 lbs to the front of the Z....well, I think it would be better and easier to install bigger rotors and calipers. Just my opinion! At least your being creative! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15858-hydro-boost/#findComment-123194 Share on other sites
May 10, 200519 yr Author comment_123247 I actually enjoy the challenge of making those types of things. I made the whole off set bracket to make the hydro boost in my bronco. As well made a bracket to use a saganaw pump istead of using a mustang serpitine power steering pump when I did the EFI and Serpitine swap on my bronco. There is already a spot for it where the smog pump is. By the way is it necessary to keep the smog pump for the SU carbs? Anyone know? May 10, 200519 yr comment_123251 Necessary? No. There are a lot of Z's without smog pumps. What year is your car? Do you think your government won't require your car to pass smog checks in the future? You may want to keep anything you remove in case you are later required to have it installed. You do live in CA afterall.
