EricB Posted May 12, 2005 Share #14 Posted May 12, 2005 Larry Suffice it to say that used parts places and wheel shops are plentiful in Japan. There's a phenomenon over there where everyone has to go out and get the latest NEW gear. Therefore that makes the used market pretty vast. Japanese car nuts on average take good care of their stuff and if you don't have anything against getting someone else's second hand there's a lot of deals to be had. Recaro SPG race seats for $200 ex-JGTC center lock racing rims for $50 (what would you do with them other than make a coffee table??) Nardi steering wheels $30 used suspension, exhaust, LSD, car stereo, you name it they got it... So rather than name off some addresses and seem them getting blown out with a hoard of visiting tourists and seeing the prices there rise as a result I would simply advise your friend stationed in Japan to grab a couple car mags and look at the ads inside for addresses nearest to him... 10 sets of wheels airjockie? and you shipped them? damn... I had 5 sets of Honda TypeR wheels shipped shrinkwrapped on a palet once... Sold them at a premium and that paid for my airfare there and then some... Dealing with US Customs in Long Beach however was a pain in the arse but nothing's free, right? -e
Airjockie Posted May 12, 2005 Author Share #15 Posted May 12, 2005 I really hate to say this...but the market for used parts ISN'T even there anymore...The Japanese has almost fully converted to Mini-vans, and smaller economical cars...and no more real sports cars are even made...if you have plans for an RB or an SR swap....you better get those engines now...in 3-5 years..they will al be gone.I buy everything from the yahoo Auctions, and some things from Up-Garage and Seko-Han...but thats about it. This year..Up-Garage and Seko-han has about 1/4th of what they had two years ago..and it was almost pathatic to see what they did have.I mailed the wheels....in 2 trips, 20 wheels on on trip, and 20 on the other trip...all packed in pairs...so 10 packages at one...hopefully it doesnt attract to much attention at customs...Plus I have 4 cars..so they can leagally be classified as "for personal use only" :nervous:
EricB Posted May 13, 2005 Share #16 Posted May 13, 2005 All good things eventually come to an end...So much so I've been toying with the idea of buying an RB26 just to prop it up on an engine stand.... I would never put it in the Z but am feeling it's important enough to have around for the future... S20 are no longer economically feasible and I'm sure that the RB26TT will end up with a similar place in the pantheon of engines... ahaha listen to me write hahaha-e
