I just bought this diff on Ebay minus the halfshafts for $200. It has the smooth cover. Will it bolt right up to my 72 240? Anybody know what halfshafts I'll need? I've heard horror stories but have seen conflicting info. thanks in advance...

You do not need to know the truth. It is a real PITA. I have a R200 L/S with 79ZXT half shafts. It is nearing completion. If you really want to know what it takes, give me a private message. If you really do not want to know the truth, don't ask! Everyone says it is a piece of cake... it bolts right up... no problem! Hogwash! It takes a lot, A LOT of work to put a R200 with CV axles in a early Z. Trust me!

The flanges are interchangeable. The problem is shortening the axles to make them fit. You need to shorten the stub axles to make the axles fit. They are about 1" too long without any mods. We cut the stub axles and machined them for welding. We also had to modify the springs for the CV joints. It is a very complicated process. I would not do it again for my street driving. A nice R200 with the old axles would have been just fine! Now I have a drive train that will handle 500 hp. I will be running 200. Overkill!

I don't think so. It is a little like going to the barber and coming home and finding your toe nails too short. No connection between brakes and clutches. Your ZX just needed more attention!

ZSaint is thinking of an entirely different LSD. The VLSD that started this thread won't use 280ZXT CV's, because the VLSD has more splines on the inner end of the CV. It just doesn't work.

You'll have to have the original VLSD CV's, or if you don't have them then you might have to get some from another Nissan with VLSD, like a 240SX or a later 300ZX. I think the 88 CV's are the right length, the others ARE TOO LONG. Definitely get the 88 CV's if you can. If you're really lucky, these will work and it will bolt straight up: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=56 I don't know for sure if it's as easy as that or not, but a lot of guys are running the VLSD on hybridz.org so you might search over there and see if you can find the info.

ZSaint, why wouldn't this have worked for you? http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=5 Sounds like you went about it the hard way unfortunately...
