Posted May 12, 200519 yr comment_123465 HelloIm trying to solve a puzzle I have at the moment with the lock on my fuel filler door. Car is a series II 09/71 240z and would have had the key style lock as original. The current lock that is installed on the fuel filler door uses a separate key to that of the remainder of the locks...I know this is not correct. I bought the car like this.I went through a box of parts I got with the car when I bought it and found a lock cylinder which can be actuated with the original key which operates the remainder of the locks. However, at this stage, something doesnt seem right with it.Id like to know if someone is able to post a pic showing the rear of their fuel filler door lock on their 71 240z. Im interested to see the clip which retains the lock and also the part that moves around to lock the door when the key is moved from the other side.Im having troubles finding a good reference pic as it isnt really an exciting area of the z to photograph!Any help is appreciated, as always.RegardsJoseph Gauci Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15876-fuel-filler-door-lock-detail-for-series-ii-71-240z-picture-request/ Share on other sites
May 13, 200519 yr Author comment_123581 Well, for those interested I may have answered my own question. I was just sorting out some saved pictures and came across the one as attached. I have it labelled gas door lock, Im pretty sure I borrowed it from an ebay auction some time. The one I have which the key actuates looks exactly like this one. Is it correct? Can someone confirm this pic rather than going to the trouble of taking a pic of theirs? Im still interested to see the lock clip detail though. May 13, 200519 yr comment_123615 I have a series II (1-`71) but I do not have a locking door. The gas door has a latck that turns a tab so it does not come open but no lock. I allways thought it was stock but I guess not. Now I would like to have a locking door. The 71 Z that I previously owned had the latch you describe. The 73 240Z that I owned had a lock/key. The 72 Z I currently own has neither. May 13, 200519 yr comment_123656 Wll I guess mine is correct for the year then. I like having things like that correct even though the suspension and motor are not period correct.
