Whats going on?

The C110

Recommended Posts

After thinking about plans for my own car today, i started to wonder. How are all the c110 guy's cars going at the moment? It seems like things are a little stagnant on this side of the forum, apart from a few users who are regularily active [im probably one of the stagnant ones at this stage]. So i guess the purpose of this thread is to document how eveyones' car is going and what their coming plans are for it...[i havent seen kyteller (michael) on this forum in ages]. Oh and it would be great if we could get a c110 register going in australia, as every day another c110 is butchered for those bloody heartless 510 bastards :DROFL Cheers,

Tom

p.s, im getting some my brakes redone soon, and the twin su's rekittted...

Hey Tom, Guys,

Well I have wrapped my two coupes up in mothballs as I have moved up to Sydney from Melbourne until the end fo September 05. I miss being able to tinker on them. So there has not been much to update. Just thoughts on what I want to do first. Oh that and keeping a watchful eye out for bits. I picked up a side mirror on ebay for $18 last week. ;-)

Just a note to all looking there seems to be a very nice hardtop on www.ozdat.com at the moment for sale for $2000. Could be a bargain!

I've been a bit busy with my car, in the last couple of weeks I have done a few things. Firstly I had to take out the bash-plate from under the engine to get the radiator out to get recored. I had it lying around for a while so I decided to restore it. Used a friend's power tools to get it back to bare metal, than coated it with a few coats of primer and satin black. Came out nicely I think!

Also I scored a new (as in NEW, stored for the last however many years) rear bumper so I put that on too. I never thought there would be so much rust behind the old one... The brackets looked pretty shoddy, so while I was in the scraping-off-rust mood I restored those too. Put all new bolts and nuts etc. on and finally got the new bumper on. It took a while (especially getting off those darn bolts)!

And today, she is getting new shocks, springs and the Watanabes with new rubber fitted. Also ball joints and bushes. Pictures pending!

Next week uni starts again, but hopefully some time it'll get a new exhaust system (headers back) and I am still pursuing the mythical rear quarter "GT" badges! If anyone knows of a good cheap source for proper C110 ones please share!

Tom, how much is the "rekitting" of your carbs and what exactly does that entail? I think mine would benefit from an overhaul but I would have thought it would be expensive...?

And a couple more pics. Sorry, I'm really fond of the bumper! Compared to my old one it is so straight and clean. It is not perfect, there are spots on the chrome that seem to have gone messy from storage... but it looks great from a distance.

I want to see what you guys have done - pictures please!

Hey Lach + Bruce,

Sounds good Lachlan, youve got a nice range of parts under your belt now! The bash tray and new bumper look great, if only i could find one... Might i ask where you managed to come across such an item [the bumper]? I was thinking of ringing all the local nissan dealers around perth, to see if theyd have any c110 bits left lying around in storage somewhere...? Is it worth it?

Cant wait to see how the car looks after the suspension work is completed! :D What sort of suspension setup are you going for, in terms of springs and shocks? After this, theoretically, you could go all out with the motor!!!! Exciting stuff....

Ive been quoted at around $500-$550 to rekit the SU's, which entails replacing all the gaskets, needles, bushes etc. for new items, and anything else that is less than new. Additionally i was offered by the same guy to have them shipped over east and zinc coated, for a grand total of around $750...I think the former option is more in my ballpark....Interestingly, as this thread demonstrates, the differences can be astounding...after exams will be the car's time again :)

Thats sad to hear, Bruce! By the sound of things previously, your cars were going along swimmingly! As you say, more time to think about their potential ....Crazy, crazy sacreligious thoughts have gone through my mind lately, to commit to maybe a 1jz or 2jz engine swap due to the price! Its still a six though!!?!?

So, on this site, roughly, there would be about 10-15 active c110 members? Any others maybe over at skylinesaustralia.com? Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom and the rest of you all out there...

I havn't had much time to work on our project car either of late... most of time time i can spend on the car is dedicated pretty much to getting the rally car up and running (i have too many friends getting married.. seems like a wedding/bucks/engadgements every weekend :( )

The car is going well, bodywise most of the car is now complete (by this i mean bogged up ;D), just have to fix up the boot, give it another coat of primer, and she should be ready to spray! it certianly won't win any awards.. but then again it is a charity rally car.. Interior wise it still needs a good clean out, who knows what is in there!

hopefully soon, a sponsor will be sorting us out with some tyres, so in preperation, i have sprayed the ROH rimms gold, not a fantastic job (they will probably scratch off at the first oportunity, but oh well..) but it will be enough for the event, and a few sponsor show offs...

Oh btw.. we are doing the car up as a japanese police car :D it was the only theme we could think of, in keeping with the skyline theme

As for the project car.. still looking for a nice set of 15-16" watanabe's.. they are proving most elusive! good to hear that others are getting somewhere substantial with their projects..

oh.. i have been updating the rally.project240k.com site too.. i am not 100% sure with the site layout yet.. and i will hopefully get a few more photo's up this weekend, as far as the weather holds.. typical! a weekend off, and it rains!

Hi Tom, I have been trying to get this bumper for some time now (about 6 months) from Warren. You know how he is, you really have to want the part and let him know it for him to organise it. I would definitely recommend asking your local Nissan dealerships... I have never done it personally but what's to lose eh?

Failing that you could always get yours straightened and chromed. Trouble is you'd probably want to do the little stainless surround bits too, and the front bumper... and the front SS... and and and... :tapemouth

I've attached a couple of pictures of the new setup. It handles very nicely now with oodles of grip. I have "low" King Springs all around with some medium stiffness shocks.. I thought the ride would be pretty harsh but it's actually not bad. I said "low" because the rear seems way too high. I'm not sure what's going on there but it looks like a dragster from the side. I'm going back on Monday to sort this out. It will definitely not stay this high.

I'd love to fit an engine to match the looks, but now I'm pretty much broke. Give me a few years though LOL :cheeky: The Supra engine swap is something I would consider too. But in the end I think an RB25DET (or 26DETT if you want to be silly) still wins, even if it's more costly. It's almost an insult to put a Supra engine into the old Skyline...

$500 for a carb rekit. Hmm, I'll save up for the gearbox first I think. Let us know how that goes if you get yours rekitted.

Kent, I grinned when I saw your intentions to do up your C110 in the theme of a Japanese Police Car! This is exciting news - I really want to see a C110 police car replica so I hope it turns out well! "Something a bit different" is an understatement!

Now, where's Kyteler?!

haha, yeah.. put it this way.. it will look like a well used japanese cop car when we are finished :D

i have a small C110 cop car model that i just won off ebay.. so we will be working to that.. japanese writing and all.. my only worry is that since it doesn't say POLICE in english.. nobody is gonna get it.. but i have you to blame for putting that video cover up on SAU and giving me the idea! :D

mate the car looks perfect! i can only hope that mine works out like that!
