WTD: Suspension Strut Protective Rubber Boots

I've just looked at a boot. Black Tie would certainly be a better mod than the original clip, if you don't mind non original configeration.

Gav, the Bumpstops on a 240 are different. You will need the bumpstops from a Aussie 260 to install the boots, otherwise you could go mad with some Silicon and form a retaining ring/lip for the boot to seat into.

Yeah thanks again guys I don't mind non original configuration zip ties sound fine. Especially since this isn't a 240z standard item anyway. It's main purpose to me is it's ability to protect the unit more than look good.

With the struts I got the guy included the rubber insulators that go into the top of the shock towers. Is this the part I need from a 260z I've included pictures of it below.

Looking in the Haynes manual it appears they are slightly different I think i can see the part I need.

I think I'll be right if I buy the boots first take a look at them and see what's going on with them. I know the guy who owns a wreckers here who will probably have what I need. I've also got a friend who has a little workshop and he will have a solution i think.

If I'm understanding what you have, the "rubber washer" is a spacer for the rear struts only. On the front struts, there is a bearing that fits in this place you seem to have indicated. And these parts are not where the rubber boot would attach. On the strut, you have the spring, the upper spring seat, the bearing (or rubber spacer), and then the big rubber top mount with the three studs. The boot fits around an inner lip on the upper spring seat. Hope that's clear...

Sorry for the late reply, but my only access to the internet is at work. If you still require the info. I brought them is July '04, shock boot from MSA (PART NO. 23-4090) front and rear, I paid $39.83 each. The part no. for the clip, just for the heck of it is 54057-N3700, even though on a previous threads they are no longer avail. and your going for cable ties.

As for bump stops try www.suspension.com, they are $8 each, rather than the $19.95 each from VB or MSA.

Thanks for the help everyone I guess the best thing will be for me to take the Z to my mates workshop pull it apart and see what's missing and what exactly I need. I have been pretty busy lately so it will be another couple of weeks away.

Update on the strut boots.

I bought the set from www.RockAuto.com with the integrated bump stops.

Apparently you need the top spring seats that the later S30's used to use these with a seperate bump stop.

I believe the others I ordered should work with the early "240z" type. I'll reconfirm this when it arrives but thought it would be useful for anyone reading this thread at a later date.

I just put a set of the OEM style strut boots on my 280Z, so FYI, I've attached two pics: one that is the underside of the upper spring seat where the boot fits around a lip, and the other with the boot installed on the strut. I haven't disassembled my 240Z struts to compare, but these are 280Z style.

The bumpstops do more to protect the strut cartridge than the spring seat.

on the 350z front struts, the boot kind of sits over the bump stop, if I recall correctly (recently traded the 350 on a C6 vette, so I can't check), but I think they might work as a suitable replacement, and list is only 15 each. its worth a try. They are about 2" round and 6-8" long, not accordianed.
