Posted May 20, 200519 yr comment_124636 I did a search but found nothing on this subject. Can anyone direct me to some information about the most desireable early Z colors? I had a '71 30 years ago which was the #920 Gold or Mustard color. There didn't seem to be that many with that paint. I'm looking at a '70 to restore (recondition) and it will require paint. I would lean towards the Gold color for nostalgia reasons, but wouldn't want to put all the work into it and then have a color which is not regarded very highly. What are your thoughts on it? May 21, 200519 yr comment_124644 don't worry about what color is popular, if you like 920 safari gold go for it.i kinda like 112 yellow lime myself. if i could pick the color i wanted i would have gone with 918 new sight orange( i alway thought it was called sunset orange) 2nd choice would be 907 racing green. May 21, 200519 yr comment_124652 The paint names changed in 1972. No more cutsie names, just color and number (i.e. 112 Yellow). See Nissan's TSB Introducing the 1972 Model S30 Sports for details. May 21, 200519 yr comment_124676 That site has a lot of paint chips to look through. That's great. Our website has a few of them (buried somewhere)I wonder where they come up with some of those names? Nissan calls 115 "Blue Metallic", then PPG calls it "Blue Poly". WTF? I've seen other paint company chips call other Nissan colors different (but still incorrect) names as well. May 21, 200519 yr comment_124690 Here is a favorite reference http://datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes/ I have the impression the 920 Safari Gold is one of the most common colors. May 21, 200519 yr comment_124722 I love my 920 gold 240. The color is very unique and vintage. You just do not see new car with colors like that and it looks so "correct" on the older Z's. I agree with zhead240, do not worry about the popularity of the color just go with what you want. Of course I am a little biased toward 920 gold. What are your thoughts on it?Absolutely agree with Zhead…. Go with the color YOU want, not with the one you think everyone likes….. If you are building this Z to sell then a popular color can help.I have 918, Orange…. (By the way, that is what my window sticker and color code on radiator say: 918-Orange). In 1973, I had no choice as that was the only Z I could find up or down the entire East Coast. It was either Orange or wait another few months and still not be guaranteed the color of my choice. So, orange quickly became my favorite and after 32 years, I still love it. May 22, 200519 yr Author comment_124756 Thanks for the input. Guess I will probably go with the 920 gold when it comes down to it. I'm getting the car for reasons of nostalgia, so it wouldn't be the same if it was a different color. May 23, 200519 yr comment_124841 For my car I would love to go with an old Z color, but I really wanted a yellow and none of the original yellow colors were really doing it for me. Until just recently I saw a 350Z in a new yellow color. It completely struck my fancy. I have been turning this color thing over in my mind for a long while, but I think I just made my decision.I agree with all the others, you should definately choose a color only to please yourself, it will be the most rewarding in the end Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15977-most-popular-70-73-paint-colors/#findComment-124841 Share on other sites
