July 14, 200519 yr comment_130604 I used a pipe wrench, and a hammer. I like hammers; particularly my 12 lb sledge hammer. But for this job, a simple claw hammer was sufficient. July 31, 200519 yr comment_132557 I have a unique problem with the upper strut gland nut. The ones currently in the car well at least the front right hand side are circular and not a octagon shape like it should be.This means I can't get a grip on it with a pipe wrench or the snap on tool above as they are designed for the normal octagon shape nut. One thing I noted about the circular one was that it has two holes directly opposite each other like you could insert something into them and turn it out that way.I guess my options with my limited tools are to take it to a suspension shop or ask a friend who might have the tool. The Tokico's I got from someone here in Australia came with the octagon shaped nuts so I'll probably put those on instead it's just getting them off to begin with.PS: Anyone know where to get 270 + LB springs in Australia to suit a Z?Help? :nervous: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16002-tool-for-removing-struts-from-strut-tube/?&page=2#findComment-132557 Share on other sites
August 19, 200519 yr comment_134868 Large Crescent Wrench (Adjustable Spanner) or a Pipe Wrench. Wrap the the piston rod of the strut to protect it if the wrench slips. There is a "Special Tool" for this job, but it's way more expensive than the two suggestions above. SPECIAL TOOL # 100000347-00592 I can sell you one for $60.00. August 19, 200519 yr Author comment_134891 Way too late. I've finished all that and the springs and shocks have settled in nicely. I'm now mid way through fitting 35mm spacers so I can run silvia rims and have some longer wheel studs I have to cut down. No sleep for the Zed Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16002-tool-for-removing-struts-from-strut-tube/?&page=2#findComment-134891 Share on other sites
