Posted May 8, 200222 yr comment_6845 Ok, so 99% of the people I talk to say I am out of my friggin mind, but I really want to do this. I really like the dependablility and smooth operation of FI engines and want to see what I can get out of one without the constraints of smog (I live in CA). So let me know what you think. My recipe:'70-'73 240 chassis (smog exempt here)L28 block (F54 if I decide to bore it out, but probably not)ZX Flat-topsN42 head (probably do a light port job, probably have to change the guides)ZX FI intake with everything uneccessary filled and ground off, bored for larger TBTurbo TBTurbo AFM with ZX guts adjustedZX harness and 'puterOf course a good induction and header and 'straight back' at least 2.25From the research I have done, should have a little better than 10:1 and flow pretty good.OK, let's hear it from the Venturi Bros.steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1601-im-building-a-new-motor-system/ Share on other sites
May 8, 200222 yr comment_6852 You are crazy, that is, if you let others discourage you from you want to do. It sounds like you have thought this out and made some good choices on your block and head. Personally I prefer the P79 head that was mounted on the F54 block for non turbo applications. Again, personal preferance. It does sound like, however, that your Z will be running like a strapping ape. May 11, 200222 yr comment_6992 What if you started wiuth a 75 - 76 280z ( already has the N42 head ) and dropped in flat-top pistons ( i live in FL Smog exempt all the time ) how would that work for the engine??\Matt Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1601-im-building-a-new-motor-system/#findComment-6992 Share on other sites
May 11, 200222 yr Author comment_6996 That would be alot easier, but '75-76 are not smog exempt here. It stops at 73. steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1601-im-building-a-new-motor-system/#findComment-6996 Share on other sites
May 11, 200222 yr comment_7008 What kind of gains would you expect from upping the compression ratio to that?Someone on Zcar said about 20ish, i figured a 2.5 CR jump would maybe do more than that...Or would i really just noticed a helluvalot more off the line power ( torque )?Matt Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1601-im-building-a-new-motor-system/#findComment-7008 Share on other sites
May 11, 200222 yr Author comment_7012 I'm not sure what numbers you are talking about...Quarter mile?....20ish?....Bone stock a Z ought to do a hellof a lot better than that! Maybe you mean 20ish more horsepower?steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1601-im-building-a-new-motor-system/#findComment-7012 Share on other sites
