I'm building a new motor system...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so 99% of the people I talk to say I am out of my friggin mind, but I really want to do this. I really like the dependablility and smooth operation of FI engines and want to see what I can get out of one without the constraints of smog (I live in CA). So let me know what you think. My recipe:

'70-'73 240 chassis (smog exempt here)

L28 block (F54 if I decide to bore it out, but probably not)

ZX Flat-tops

N42 head (probably do a light port job, probably have to change the guides)

ZX FI intake with everything uneccessary filled and ground off, bored for larger TB

Turbo TB

Turbo AFM with ZX guts adjusted

ZX harness and 'puter

Of course a good induction and header and 'straight back' at least 2.25

From the research I have done, should have a little better than 10:1 and flow pretty good.

OK, let's hear it from the Venturi Bros.

You are crazy, that is, if you let others discourage you from you want to do. It sounds like you have thought this out and made some good choices on your block and head. Personally I prefer the P79 head that was mounted on the F54 block for non turbo applications. Again, personal preferance. It does sound like, however, that your Z will be running like a strapping ape.

What kind of gains would you expect from upping the compression ratio to that?

Someone on Zcar said about 20ish, i figured a 2.5 CR jump would maybe do more than that...

Or would i really just noticed a helluvalot more off the line power ( torque )?
