Posted May 26, 200519 yr comment_125155 I was wondering how much i would want to mill an e88 head (and if i would use a different head gasket in conjuction with this or what) to get somewhere between 10.3 to 10.5 compression, and if this would create a clearence issue.By the way, its a 72' L24.Thanks in advance,Matt Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16034-milling-an-e88/ Share on other sites
May 26, 200519 yr comment_125156 Hey Matt,No telling if your head has been milled before. Take your head and have the head cc'd. Calculate your current c/r and go from there. Once you know what you have you will be able to plan on what to do. Do you already have a particular head gasket in mind? They all provide different c/r's. Do your math first then mill.Ed Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16034-milling-an-e88/#findComment-125156 Share on other sites
May 26, 200519 yr Author comment_125161 I know that the head has never been milled before, so that equates out to a CR of something like 9:1. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16034-milling-an-e88/#findComment-125161 Share on other sites
May 26, 200519 yr comment_125167 Err, that would depend on "WHICH" E88 head you have. Ther are at least 2 versions, each with very different combustion chamber sizes and shapes. May 26, 200519 yr comment_125203 Well, the early E88 is the desireable head--before approx August 72...normally, I'd say if it had round top SUs stock I think this is the head--like on my 240. May 26, 200519 yr comment_125204 On related note, what are peoples thoughts on the change in combustion chamber shape when you shave a head? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16034-milling-an-e88/#findComment-125204 Share on other sites
May 26, 200519 yr comment_125218 Oh, I see, is there a way i can tell this?Try a search using some combination of the terms Early E88, Late E88 There should be several threads with attached pictures of the two combustion chamber shapes.
