Konig Rewinds

I'm watching the Eagles Farewell 1 Tour on tv and it's got my juices flowing so here's a little rant...

I own a stock 72 240Z, 74 260Z, 80 280ZX and the 75 280Z featured in this thread. Although this is not the modified forum, I felt more people would get to see what has to be done to mount these wheels. My 75 has a 355 SBC V-8 with a HOLLEY 144 blower at 10 lbs boost. It's a torque monster now. I'm swapping in the R-230 LSD diff from a 91 300ZXTT next week and in JULY I'm putting in 195 AFR heads with a 25 shot of NOS. A 6 point roll cage will also be added. DAMN..... In the 2 years I've owned this car and done the conversion and with the added changings, my budget is passing $30,000 on this car. So...... Paying $35 if I need a new set of caps is not even on my radar scope as it pertains to spending for parts on this car.......

Nice side pipes by the way...

I "rescued" my car from someone who intended to drop a SBC into it, because he had several "runnable" ones laying around. I suggested that he look into an old Corvette.

But having said that, if the V8 route is direction that one takes, then by all means do it right and get the serious HP that is possible in that format. Fast cars are all about power to weight ratios, and if you are adding the weight, grab the power to make up for it.

Thanks for the comments.... As far as the weight of this car ,it's 2920 lbs without me in it. Control and tire spin is more of a concern now then total weight.....I'll be near 600 hp and ft lbs of torque at the crank after JULY.... :smoke:

Let me say this ...It's a crap shoot. Do as I outlined and skip the glue and loose a cap and drive around with missing cap/caps and have to reorder new ones or do it the way I explained..... Now you know why I was "Mad As Hell" and I'm not going to use the original ones by hammering on the spindle cap as I have read elsewhere....:finger:

I think we are in basic agreement. I'm not pounding on my grease caps either, and I don't want to loose caps at speed on the highway/roadway either. Maybe I'll look for some "spinners" (simulated knockoffs) and see what I can find that might fit. I have plenty of time to search before I have to make any decisions.

... won't work. :(

I finally got around to measuring the hubs on the car, and the "rise" of the Konig centre caps, and found the problem... even with the grease caps off, the spindle comes out too far for the Konig cap to fit, let alone with the grease cap on. So even if one is to pound the grease cap until it touches the spindle inside, the Konig cap will NOT fit properly. The only solution to fit those caps on would be to grind the spindle down about a 1/4 inch.

I think I'm going to be painting my grease caps silver... :(

BTW, Carl, do you still need to have the pics of the wheel nuts? Sorry, with all the excitement of driving my car around I had totally forgotten, but I have my car here now, and would be happy to take any pics or get any info you need.

Cheers,

Ayan

Hello Ayan, If you have the time, I'd appreciate a pic or two showing the correct wheel nuts. I want to be sure that I get the right ones for my wheels.

Thanks in advance.

Carl

Don't worry about the center caps guys. Eight spoke wheels look great without center caps. Just clean up the grease caps and the area on the rear drums that will show. The center capless wheels look more aggressive and they do not look unfinished. take a look at these links. When I get around to putting my eight spokes on I am going to paint my grease caps black.

Hey Carl,

I just got back from the "Porsche Clash" at Watkins Glen this weekend. I'll take a couple of pics and post them as soon as I can dump all the pics from this weekend from my camera...

Others - I may end up painting my front hubs silver at the end of the day, but I can understand Carl's desire to have a more "finished" look. That would be my preference too, but I have no money left to get a different set of caps or to hire someone to customize... so may go the silver paint look in the meantime...

cheers
