I was resetting the trip odometer on my 280Z yesterday when I refueled, and for some reason, the cable inside got all bound up and wouldn't turn. It worked fine and turned freely until yesterday. I was on the second time around and the numbers are all stuck on 4s now.

Is there a fix for it? Doesn't want to turn backwards and loosen.

Maybe your muffler bearing are worn out! Have you changed the air in your tires lately? I suppose as a last resort you could use a little C4! Gosh, I'm out of ideas! Sure hope this helps you out!

Inspired by the irrelevant comment, and having some free time, I went out and got under the dash. The cable had twisted itself (in a knot). Having straightened it out, the cable turned freely again.

It was my 2-do list for today. I was about to go out to look into it at the time you responded.

Now that's funny. C4 as in transmissions, C4 as in explosives. Funny stuff guys. Did Ford make a C4 tranny? I had a C6 in my 73 Mach 1.

Yah, Ford made a C4 tranny (3 speed). They used it with the 260, 289, & 302 motors early on. You know Vic, I think TomoHawk is coming around. Wait a minute....that would spoil the fun factor. We still love ya TomoHawk! Don't let my poking fun at you ruffle your feathers.

The best thing that could happen to a Ford C4 is mating it with a pound of the other C4.

a thin sawzall blade fits between the two arm pieces, and you can just cut the spindle pin, then it will drive out easy with a few taps.
