drove by jiffy lube a few days ago...

i thought i have to admit it to you guys. yes i did it. i drove in and got my oil and differential fluid changed.

i feel like i "embarrassed" my Z so bad...on the way home, the thermostat pipe on the side that i blocked off with a small plug decided to blow. i guess she was getting back at me.

so i got home and replaced it with a threaded plug, and all is well. last time i go to jiffy lube, i know my baby didnt like it.

not to mention they filled the diffy from the drain plug cause they "couldnt get to" the fill plug. ha. funny i can get to it. poons.

just thought id share when i wanst faithful to my honey...

fill the diffy from the drain plug?! that's the stupidest thing I've heard of. yeah It's a bitch payin for stuff that you know you can do youself huh? I always do my own work I've seen some of the mechanic guys that always end up with the cars. They have dumb mottows like "one crossthread is better than ten lockwashers." "who cares if I broke it if the problem went away." you know stuff like that. I hope it wasent too dramatic for you.

I don't see how that is possible. Hopefully they removed the vent at the top of the diff (AND REPLACED IT) and filled from there, otherwise you most likely don't have enough oil in your diff.

Sometimes you don't even get what you paid for. This seems to be an example of that.

I like the one one of the Mechanics told me when I worked at Western Auto between High school and College:

"I don't give a Fnck, I aint the A$$hole that bought this piece of $hit anyway"

He was fired a day or two later when A car he had just done brakes on lost both wheels on one side at 40 mph going down Abercorn(a local main drag) The damage to the car that lost the wheels was limited to a rotor, studs, and a rear brake drum, shoes and hardware. The new Vandan Plas that was nailed by the wheels was not nearly so lucky-but it was parked in the last parking place in the mall(at that time we only had one mall), and was empty- The owner came out to find a tire wedged behind his front tire, and another tire in a gaping hole that used to be the union of the B pillar and the drivers door-the tires hit the car airborne-the mall parking lot is below the road way at that area. It took the police over an hour to figure out what had happened to the Jag after the owner came out, the Western Auto had no idea(and didn't bother to check) what happened to the wheels.

People paid and hired him to work on cars...

I agree with Carl. How are they positive they put enough lube in your diff ? Did they measure it when pumping it into the unit?

i watched him do it. the nozzel that pumped the fluid was just the right size to fit in the hole...

he pumped the pump and filled it "more than halfway" then stuck the plug in real quick...

he said he does it all the time...and he "knows" how much it pumps.

i dont really care anyways about the diffy...the thing makes so much noise allready, and clunks like a mother. its going to be replaced by another "better condition" 3.9 rear.

Hearing these stories of automotive abuse makes me so thankful I have had an excellant Z mechanic to help me with my Z. He's been working on these cars since '70, first at a Datsun dealership, then at his own Datsun/Nissan shop. In the 22 years he's worked on my Z cars, I've never had to take the car back for the same repair. Plus, he appreciates owners who want to perform repairs on their own cars, to the point of showing/telling them what needs to be done and how to do it! Plus, I've had my car in for a repair and after picking up my car, found out he found a minor thing needed attention and just took care of it, for free, without saying anything about it afterward. Plus, in all the years I've known him, he has ALWAYS owned and driven a 240z. I witnessed him cutting himself once, and he bled Datsun blue blood!

that's what I was thinkg too unless you had quick drummer hands (like me tehee) it doesn't seem like it would work too well. you should have told him that doing it the easy way is not the way a mechanic should work, and to get a new job. man as far as sayings go I know a ton of them.

Bubbles, enough money was put into your car already. Get a FSM and learn about doing those simple jobs yourself. By the way, I hope you're not using RTV on the oil drainplug.
