rusty floor boards- POR or weld in new ones

I have a 73 240 with some holes in the floor boards . The car came with a set of floor boards from I think MSA. I plan on auto crossing with this car. My question is will the floorboard repair kit from POR give the frame enough strength , or should I spend the bucks and have someone cut out the old ones and weld in the new floorboards. The floorboards have a couple small holes driver side and 1 small hole passenger side. I'd like to save a couple dollars and do the POR myself, but if getting someone to weld in the new ones is the right thing to do then I'll go that way. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated or does anyone have expieriance with the POR repair kit? Many Thanks!!! Mark

If the holes you describe are truly small and can just be patched by buying some sheet metal from the hardware store and having them welded in, you are looking at a MUCH cheaper, faster and less invasive job. The rigidity of the floor will be fine too.

Be sure to check the frame rails under the floor for any signs of rust while you are at it. You can replace them without replacing the entire floor pan if necessary. If you can cover the holes in the floor pan with your hand, I agree with the previous posts, just make up some patch panels and weld them in. If you have a lot of them or the rust has gotten into the frame rails then it would be time to go with new floor pans.

Thanks - for some reason I didn't think of just getting the holes themselves patched. I saw on MSA's site the approx time involved to weld in the floor boards and started to sweat a little.

Just looked at my Z. They have got one side in, full floor replacement! Looks great. I kept the old floor to hang on the garage wall to remind myself to be wary of the rust demon!

Lookin forward to hitting the streets in the rain!
