June 1, 200519 yr comment_125832 SOunds like either the connector is loose (squeeze it gently to make certain it's secure to the sending unit) or the wire is broken (less likely). Other possiblity is the sending unit is bad, but I'd expect it to fail completely, not intermittantly. June 1, 200519 yr comment_125839 If Carls suggestions don't clear it up, remove the sensor, clean the treads on it and the threads it screws into, and you will have probably solved the problem, years ago I had the same chase going on, and it turned out to be corrosion in the threads! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16095-temp-sensor/#findComment-125839 Share on other sites
June 1, 200519 yr comment_125841 That's a good idea too. If you have to remove the sensor, be very careful, steel threads in the fitting, are threading into an aluminium housing. Easy to ruin one, the other, or both. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16095-temp-sensor/#findComment-125841 Share on other sites
June 1, 200519 yr comment_125869 A little anti-sieze is a good idea on any threaded device going into aluminum. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16095-temp-sensor/#findComment-125869 Share on other sites
June 1, 200519 yr comment_125872 Don't use too much anti-sieze though. The sensor needs metal to metal contact for the ground. That is why the corrosion on the threads was causing a problem. June 1, 200519 yr Author comment_125923 while looking for anti-sieze gook($14) i came across electrical contact cleaner($5). thought i'd try the cleaner first, disconected the wire and sprayed both contacts. fired up the zed and temp guage is working. keeping fingers crossed hopeing it's a permanent fix. glad i tried plan b first, cheaper and easier. thanks guys Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16095-temp-sensor/#findComment-125923 Share on other sites
