beandip Posted June 2, 2005 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2005 I am in the process of finishing the redo of my '73 240 . I have had to replace the entire wireing in the car do to a PO that had sh$% for brains. I am using the entire loom from a '72 . I am at the point now of connecting the ignition , wypers and light switch at the steering column which is all from the old '73 , and it has intermitten wypers and such. The connecters are different between the two years of Z and I am trying to puzzle through this. The wireing diagram for the '73 shows a relay for the wypers . If anyone has a '73 and can tell me what it looks like and or describe it , part numbers or letters , location or what ever , this will be a great help . I stripped out the old wireing over two years ago and now I cannot remember this part. The dash is all in , no trouble there , the same with the engine bay and the tail lights . But this part I can use some help. Thanks Gary I am aware that the 73 and later wypers have an additional yellow wire to deal with and I assume that it is for the intermittent detent. beandip Posted June 3, 2005 Author Share #2 Posted June 3, 2005 One problem is that I only have the motor that came with the car and I am assumeing that it is a '73 I also have a motor from a '75Z and it is wired the same but the plug is different , which is no big deal . However both of the motors have 6 wires and the '72 loom has only 5 . No yellow wire. My wireing diagram shows the yellow goes into the relay on a 73 , but the 72 diagram doesnt show a relay at all ?? Help if you can . I still have the old wireing , that I removed but I dont even know what the relay looks like if I see it . There must be someone in the club that has installed a later year wyper motor in a eailer Z. Gary :surprised
beandip Posted June 3, 2005 Author Share #3 Posted June 3, 2005 Is Vickers a Z specific book or a general publication ?
Bambikiller240 Posted June 3, 2005 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2005 I can't help you except to point out that there is no wiper motor relay on a 72 (unless it is built into the motor / wiper drive gears. None shown on the schematic, and I didn't see one in my car either. If you get answers to your questions, please post them as I'm sure others will be interested in doing this job. I have a schematic of the '72 wireing blown up to a 2' X 3' and in color and I know there is no relay on the '72 . Thats my problem . If I need to install the 73 relay I need to find it and or it's location. I thought I explained what I needed sorry. Gary

I admitted that I couldn't help you with the main part of your problem, I was just responding to the question marked area about 72 wiring. Good Luckthe 72 diagram doesnt show a relay at all ?? WarrenZ Posted June 3, 2005 Share #7 Posted June 3, 2005 Hi,This info is from a Aussie RHD 5/73 with intermittant mode on wipers, I assume the LHD version is same but on the other side.Just above the hood release lever is a plate with 2 relays mounted, a round one in a clear case and a metal can above it. To the rear of that plate is (I think from the feel of it) the wiper relay, it has 2 plugs on it. One plug has 3 wires, Y, Y-G, B and the other has 4 wires and it looks like has L-W, L-R, L, L-Y. (could be 2 x L-W)The number on the relay is 3 0313.Sorry, my wife is out and has the digital cameraHope that helps and if you need more info let me knowCheers Warren
sblake01 Posted June 3, 2005 Share #8 Posted June 3, 2005 I have some spare relays for my 78. I know you are referring to a 73 and I don't know if it would be the same but I can take a picture of the intermittent wiper relay if that would be of any help. COZY Z COLE Posted June 3, 2005 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2005 Using the Auto Zone wiring diag. the relay you refer to is called a intermittent amplifier and is shown in fig.10 for the 74 260Z. To me US models didn't have this feature until the 74 260Z model and the combo switch is different then the 73 240Z and they're more wires going from that relay then just a yellow one...http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1d/1d/80/0900823d801d1d80.jspLARRY
Bambikiller240 Posted June 3, 2005 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2005 The 73 240Z (mfg'd 3/73) that I first owned had OEM intermittant wipers.Larry: are you coming to Blackhawk tomorrow?
