Where to get a light flywheel?

Anyone know where I can get a light flywheel in australia, either new or 2nd hand? I'm thinking something in the 10-13lb range.

Justin, get yours machined, or do you need it ready to go before you pull apart.

There's no rush on it as I have a spare flywheel here that I can play with. I have had a lot of people recommend avoiding machining the original from a safety point of view. Besides, I doubt there's anyone around here that I'd trust to do the job.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what was available in the way of brand new items, then decide based on that.

I just had my flywheel lightened. Before we started it weighted 23.5 lbs. I paid the machine shop for 1.5 hours of work to use a lathe to take offenough material to get down to 16.5 lbs. To go further was going to require them to switch to a milling machine to take material off between the studs that align the pressure plate. I didn't want to go that far or spend the $$$.

Then I had to find another shop to balance it.

Then I had to find a last shop to refresh the clutch disc surface.

In the end I spent about $150 total. I do think it was worth it, and was very pleasantly surprised that it didn't make starting up in 1st gear any more difficult. On the positive note, the revs drop much faster on shifts. I can't say I found any improvement in acceleration that others have claimed, but all in all I think it was well worth it if you're going to have the tranny down anyway. I don't think I'd suggest it for a street driven car if that's all you're going to do.

sent my car into the shop to get some suspicious vibration checked. turned out it was the flywheel was lose so that had to come and rather than take it to another shop to get it machined and balanced the people at the workshop (nissan orientated) had an r32 (or r34, i dont remember) flywheel hanging around from an upgrade. the one originally on there when we bought it was a light weight and from what i felt doesnt seem to be any differance in rev pick-up or drop time. dont know weights but seems to be fairly light. why dont you go down to a shop and see if they have anything you can have? they'll probably throw it in for free if you have any other work done there and then you have a new light weight flywheel without all the hassle of finding and running around from one shop to another.
