Greetings,

I just purchased a 1978 280Z. It has chrome bumper guards on the front and rear bumpers, rear window louvers and pinstripes. I know these weren't standard equipment because I purchased one new in 1978 and it didn't have these features.

But, I was told that this was a special rally package, or something of the sort, that could be purchased at sale time. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you,

I think that all of the items you list are dealer installed. I'm not sure if that is considered factory but they are considered stock.

....unless your car is being judged under ZCCA rules in the stock class. Dealer installed "options" (except A/C, I believe) will cause a loss in points.

Didn't you ask this question and receive answers in another thread yesterday?

LOL, maybe he doesn't believe us? :devious:

I purchased an exclusive “Big Sur Edition” Z from a Datsun dealer once. The car was green and it came with a special commemorative scented medallion, which hung from the rear view mirror.

All kidding aside…dealers are notorious for creating “Special Edition” cars by slapping on a bunch of appearance add-ons to help stimulate sales and fatten their profit margin. This might be case.
