Hey quick question, on the ebay listing, there's a picture of the driver's door opened, and there's a passenger side grab handle...what's that all about? Stock Zs don't have one of those...Vicky--do you have a grab handle on the driver's door?

What does anyone else thing about that?

The grab handle on the driver's door means that the interior door panel was made for a RHD car and the holes needed to be covered up. Brand new LHD driver's door panels are unobtanium and have been for a long time.

Since I wasn't too keen on open holes, I installed the door pull. Kind of glad I did. It's really quite a convenience.

I agree it would be nice, especially with the non-retracting shoulder belt. Sometimes when I put on my seatbelt before closing the door my arm is not long enough to pull the door.

...so if a part wasn't replaced with geniune Nissan on these repro cars, the parts just weren't replaced?

I would've thought the hoses/etc under the hood don't look oem...so in other words, using non oem hoses but a repro door skin is a no no on these 'factory' cars? Kinda strange to me...some of the repro skins are great, other than the plastic chrome thingy not being there.

Dogma,

The door panels are genuine - genuine rhd Fairlady door skins. They are the only ones remaining available. I see a brand new set of door panels on eBay right now starting at $300. And thats black. How about butterscotch? Huh?

To the best of my knowledge, the hoses were all OEM. You will see mixed braided and smooth because the braided hose is unobtanium. The fact is many parts were repro'd just for the VZ program. Many parts were put back into production from the old suppliers. However, at this point, in this thread, we aren't talking about any of them yet. You are always going to see odd things on the VZ cars and the majority of them are going to be a replacement part that superceeded the original part becaue the original part was unobtanium.

Hi Dave

My VZ does not have the grab handle on the drivers door, only on the passenger door. Scott calls it the "Oh Sh*t" handle

I always thought it was a "brace" handle for the passengers for when you're cornering and such. The driver has the steering wheel and the small pedal on the lower left side for your foot for cornering, so naturally that's what I assumed the handle was for anyway rather then for closing the door.

I thought the blue one Courtesy Nissan sold a couple of weeks ago was the serious bargain. "Buy-it-now" for $20,000 and it was gone in eight hours.

Back to door panels for a moment...Ebay #4559458586 is the correct one for HLS30. Save the picture. You don't see many of these any more.

I agree Vicky....I have never thought that the grab handle was for closing the door...

I thought it was the oh sh@t handle as well....I always close my door with the arm rest or through the window to the outside if the window is down.

I don't think I'd want it there anyways...

....but, with the way the 260/280 arm rests are setup, maybe they were intended for closing the door? those armrests incorporate the oh sh#t handle into them, right?

Yes the 280Z does have a one piece armrest/handle on both sides. I remember my 78 always having the problem of the fake chrome piece never staying attached to the door. Everytime you shut the door the thing would slip down on the handle.
