Oil pressure Sender Q's

I bought another Oil pressure Sender for my L28 the other day, as the one that was on it was the 2 spade connector type, and my 260Z has wiring for a single bullet type connector.

I hooked it all up, and when I turn on the Ignition the oil pressure needle swings to the very far right (i.e high pressure), and then once the car is going swings right back down to no oil pressure, it doesnt change when Im driving either. Im 95% sure there is no problem with oil pressure (I just rebuilt the engine and replaced everything that needed replacing). Could the Unit I bought from supercheap be suspect? It doesnt have a big bell shaped attachment on it like all the others I've seen on Z cars. Anyway to test the gauge itself ?

I'm no expert on senders, but I would think that they haven't given you the correct replacement.

From memory there are two types and they need to be matched to the correct gauge, else you will have erronious readings...

You mean two different types between L6's? Your not referring to the 2 spade connector type in the 280zx and the single bullet type connecter in the earlier ones are you ?

DONT purchase aftermarket parts for the oil pressure sending unit. You need genuine Nissan OEM. Warren at All-Z parts has them available, AUS$95 when I bought mine a few years back.

Note the design has changed for our market. It is more sqaure in shape and comes in a rubber "sock". It also has a wire comming from the end which will plug directly into your OEM stock wiring harness.

Sounds to me like the one you purchased is designed to work with an oil pressure light and not a guage. Light comes on when ignition turned on ie no oil pressure and when pressure builds up the light goes out.

Take the advice offered above and by the one from All Z-Parts.
