Performance Intake Manifold idea...for the non-welder

ok so heres a thought.

take the stock 280Z manifold, slice it in half right before the injectors, at a 90degree angle.

now, take the maxima diseal inake, and slice the runners off those at both ends, so you just end up with straight pipes.

now weld them onto the injector units that you cut off from the 280Z manifold. boom, youve got long runners with injector bungs at the end that bolts right up to the head.

now for the pleum.....

the diseal manifold is in two parts: runners and pleum.

take the pleum off.

build a flange and weld it to the end of the new runners you built, once again welding at a 90degree angle. then, drill bolt holes for the diseal pleum, and bolt it up.

there ya go. youve got nice long, STRAIGHT runners, just like your 6TB's intake...except these would be straighter. all with 3 welding jobs, that wouldnt take that long at all.

nice long runners, and huge pleum...what do you think? im sans welding machine, so i think im going to attempt this is let my friends at a machine shop do the small welding jobs...

pros with this? cons with this? other than injector placement and efficiancay.....we are sticking to as few of welds as possible.

ohh then bump up the AFPR to like 55WOT or something and SDS or megasquirt.

Why not just drill the maxima manifold for, and epoxy in, some injector bungs?

Why not fab up a fiberglass(or Carbon Fiber) plenum that bolts to the maxima runners?

No welding, no complicated tools(A drill press would be nice-but not necessary!)!

maxima runners have to attach to the head some how, so use the N42 mounting flange with injectors!

maxima intake as a whole is big and ugly, we all know that. this would be a custom, and probbal better flowing intake than the maxima

I thought you said in the title, this was for the non-welder? That seems like a lot of welding. TIG welding 3 times is impossible if you don't have a welder (non-welder). You would still have to pay someone to do the welding, and that would get expensive for something that probably wouldn't work...

Keep thinking about it though, you are on the right track.

hey Bubbles.. i am ditching the N/A electronics this weekend.. and going MegaSquirt..

for the price it would cost for a good set of Turbo electronics and working turbo AFM (which i have a spare in my basement but has a bad spot) I can get megasquirt..

Lets just say I am buying everything I need for $230 pre-built so I just have to hook her up and upload the new settings

yeah, ill post a pic of some of the designs ive been drawing out....ive got a friend that works with welding, and he said he'd do it for me if i bought him some drinks later heheh...

this setup would have fairly short runners for more upper RPM ranges...ill still need to think about it some.

The mounting flange is not the issue-the manifold will bolt right up, the issue is the injector bosses.

If you were to use the N42 flange, you would also need to enlarge the intake openings, the Maxima runner has an approximate inside diameter if 1&7/16" but the Z intakes have an approximate inside diameter if only 1&1/4"

The runners for the Maxima Diesel are about 9" long (not counting the plenium) the Z runners are about 7" long to the plenum.
