Scavengers Remorse........Normal?

Picked up a parts car recently. Now looking at this car, I know that it's only reasonable value would be that of a parts car, yet something about actually leading this car to it's demise kinda bugs me inside. I mean..... being the man at the guillotine with rope in hand, knowing that my next action will actually remove from existance one of man's great achievements without any chance of recovery, dumps a 55 gallon drum of guilt all down my back. It's almost like the string of identification numbers that makes this car what it is today, will be all thats left, much like the dog tags of a long forgotten soldier.

But maybe I am looking at this dilemma from the wrong angle. Maybe I should think of it more as the donor of a much needed organ. A hero in a sense, that has passed on, yet in his passing, has allowed another the chance of survival. Hmmmmm......yeah, this will be the only view that allows me to remove the first bolt. Maybe the best I can do is take some snapshots, you know, to remember the good old times. Then maybe grab a small chain, string it thru the dog tags, and hang them from the rear view mirror so that my Z friend and I never forget this great gift of life.

Hey, I may actually be able to work thru this. I just wondered if anybody else had the least hesitation before removing that donor fender, or cutting into that sheet metal. Man......I think I need a beer. :sleepy:

What you don't use WILL end up rust or in the crusher. Let the parts live on in another car!

Don't hesitate!!!! All of those parts will give life to many more cars. I've parted many old Z's and am much appreciated by those whos cars have been resurected.

My two cents... some cars are too far gone to be saved. You may think they can be fixed on the outside, but the reality is that age and rust have made it just plain unsafe to own or enjoy. Take what you can, tell folks what you've got, and let the parts live on in Z cars that can still be enjoyed. Like mine, for example...

I do like the idea of taking the VIN tag from the door jamb or dash and stringing it up...Sorta like a memento to a fallen friend...

It's just a car, man. If it's too far gone to be a financially viable project, tear it apart & sell it's parts to save other cars from the same fate.

Actually.....this thread was meant to be fairly light hearted....I plan to part the car, but just stuttered for an instant at the thought of lowering the population. Ah hell.....who am I fool'n......I would bash the roof in on a factory restoration, then sit on the hood and eat my lunch.

A good example of a 240Z is certainly more than just a car, but if a particular car is in real bad shape and cannot be saved at reasonable expense (whatever that is to you), I'd look at it as euthanasia and an organ donation program. (so that others may live)

I can understand a bit of hesitation at taking the first cut with a Sawzall, or doing something else from which there is no turning back, but at some point you have to make a decision, suck it up, and step forward on whatever path you've chosen for your car.

Maybe I should have said "It's just ONE 240Z, there are others to be had."

I have two parts cars, a '73 rust bucket and a '75 with some real frame damage. I'm cutting up the '75 and can't wait! I'm looking forward to it and think it will be fun to cut up an entire car (something I've never done before). If you need any body parts let me know before they are gone.
