Hey guys. I was lookin around for places that have manuals and books on z's and i found this site,

What books do you guys recomend that i should pick up for my 71. I was thinkin a shop manual for sure, and maybe the "how to restore" book cuz everyone says it has good info. If you guys know a place to get these books at a better price or if there are any other must reads that arent on that list let me know. thanks

I would say the prices look pretty good. I'd probably want to see at least the covers, and read a description of their condition though, before a sent my money in.

What kind of topics does the "how to restore your datsun z car" book cover?

Is it a guide or a techincal book?

The "How to Restore Your Datsun Z Car" is an excellent book. I recommend it to any newbie out there who is wanting to get into Z Cars.

"drunkenmaster" It's mostly a guide but he does include quiet a few technical stuff as well. The guy who wrote it guides you through the process step by step on how HE does a restoration on a Z car and this guy is very knowledgable. He also provides many photos in his book with lots of info. from his project on his 240Z. He also lists many good "tricks" and safety pointers. He goes over how to tear down certain parts on a z and rebuild it back to new condition like suspension, brakes, interior, exterior ect. He will explain how to remove other stuff like the differential, motor and transmission and reinstalling it but wont tell you HOW TO take them apart and put 'em back togeather. He will refer you to other good books that will cover that like "How to Rebuild Your Nissan OHC Engine for example to rebuild the motor.

It's very informative and is very easy to follow. It's for sure one you should purchase.

Yes, It will still help you out greatly because he also covers reinstallation and will list some of the torque specs for different nuts & bolts on all kinds of different parts.

One of his tips I think is really good but is common sense as well. NEVER toss an old part until you have the exact replacement part in your hand. Some parts on our Zs are rare and can be difficult to find and you may need to do what you have to do to get your existing part refurbished.

Even though you have already torn down your car, I'm positive you will still benefit from this book.

i'll definitely second the vote on Wick Humble's 'How to Restore' book. He has a ton of the 'stupid' little things you can forget about when you're putting it all back together. probably one of the best $20 bills i spent so far (with the ZTherapy videos).

Cool, I'll pick up the resto book for sure. Would it be better to get the actual datsun shop manual, oppossed to the suplement one by nissan for half as much or a chiltons? I have noticed with other cars i worked on that the factory's shop manual is usually more comprehensive.

i have never been impressed by chilton. i much prefer the hayne's or clymer manual. Courtesy's FSM is also a great idea. you can load it on a laptop and take it with you.
