ozlime240z Posted June 23, 2005 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2005 Hi all,I have a 240z that I've been driving regularaly for 3 years now. The suspension is pretty tired, it doesn't sit level and the shocks are buggered so I'm looking at options to replace the suspension parts.I'm in Brisbane Australia and I would like to get a spring, shock and bushings package that I could fit myself.I'm tossing up between buying locally or from the US.There are some good deals on ebay at the moment but I'm not sure they'll deliver to Australia.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7981455918http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7966002784So I'm chasing the opinions of you Aussie Zed Heads as to what your experiences are and what I should do.There are some photos of my car (as I bought it 3 years ago) in my gallery. I've been a member on this forum for 3 years but haven't been active. I been too busy just driving my zed!ThanksMike.
drunkenmaster Posted June 23, 2005 Share #2 Posted June 23, 2005 speak to barry at toperformance.com.au or alan stean at the QLD Z shop I would imagine.
260DET Posted June 23, 2005 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2005 Alan Stean is concentrating on his Silverstone tyres business, the Z part is winding down I'd be looking at some King springs and Koni shocks for a top ride/handling combo, Ken Graham at Accurate Suspension is familiar with the various Z options. halz Posted June 23, 2005 Share #4 Posted June 23, 2005 Who can recommend someone in Perth for this sort of work?
Aussie Zed Posted June 23, 2005 Share #5 Posted June 23, 2005 I think i'd agree with 260DET that king springs and koni shocks seem to be the way most people in Australia go. I'd also get noltec bushes rather than import some from the US. I'm not sure if noltec does a complete set of bushes but i did notice that they do have an adjustable rear bush for toe and camber. Here's the link:http://www.noltecsuspension.com/product/search.php?selBrand=47&product_vhcid=
Murph Posted June 23, 2005 Share #6 Posted June 23, 2005 Despite hearing that most people are happy with them, I've been quite unhappy with my KYBs. They're harsh over small bumps yet blow through their travel over large ones. The konis (or tokicos) would be well worth the extra $.
speedyblue Posted June 23, 2005 Share #7 Posted June 23, 2005 I went the Tokico HP's. Got them from the US and they were cheaper than KYB's here, or anything else here for that matter. I also got Suspension Technique springs from the US, because they were a little stiffer than what's on offer over here. They did cost about $50 more than the kings all up I think.Only swapped the front so far though, so can't give a full opinion on them yet, but pretty happy so far. Aussie Zed Posted June 23, 2005 Share #8 Posted June 23, 2005 speedyblue, where'd you end up getting the Tokio's from? Was shipping, etc. reasonable?
Gav240z Posted June 23, 2005 Share #9 Posted June 23, 2005 Hi guys and Ozlime went through the same thing recently myself. I would definately recommend going through the US when it comes to suppliers. I think that Energy Suspension kit you listed from Ebay is an excellent value for money kit. Had it not been for the fact I've already probably spent double that figure on bushes for my Z alone buying them in OZ i'd probably have got those.I'm serious I've spent a good $60 odd on the front control arm bushes , a good $30 odd for the steering rack a good $30 odd again for the front sway bar bushes. I bought a set for the rear too at $80 so you can see it adds up. The previous owner had done the caster bushes previously and they seem to be holding up still. Those prices are quotes from poor memory i could have even paid more.Get that kit off Ebay !!!!!!I also looked at shockers here in Australia Koni reds for all 4 $1200.Koni yellows? don't ask I didn't.Tokico 5 way adjustables from the states? Cheaper even with shipping. The guy on Ebay though was useless i emailed him at least 3 times with no luck on confirming he'd send them to Australia. Some of his adds do say will ship worldwide.http://www.xshocks.com/tokicoill.htm this is another supplier i was given to try for Tokico's.I actually got mine second hand off a guy who bought them from the states about a year ago. He said they were from a club car that hadn't seen too much driving and he was actually selling his Z so he was parting off the good bits to make back some money i guess. At $300 to my door i was happy with that. I'm yet to install them but I finished my exams yesterday and hope to get on with putting them in shortly.See what deals you can find in Aus but I seriously think you'd be hard pressed finding better! Even though they are in Melbourne, he is the distributor for koni shocks and also has a targa tasmania 240Z.
speedyblue Posted June 24, 2005 Share #11 Posted June 24, 2005 I got them from xshocks.comThey use paypal for payment. Shox.com don't accept OZ credit cards, so payment is a pain with them.xshocks don't answer their emails though. I called them and found out what I wanted straight away after waiting about 2 weeks for no reply to the emails. They are in california.Shipping was resonable. They only ship by air. The set of 4 shocks cost me $450au delivered to my post office box.
