'Big Sam' at Goodwood

.... I love the name of the class "street fighters"... What other cars were in this class?

You can see details of all the cars - in all the classes - on the Goodwood site I linked to in my first post.

Go to the main page, then click on the 'LIVE' ACTION tab, then the 'Event News Live' tab and look at ( for example ) the 'Saturday Practice Times - Combined'.

'Street Fighters' class had cars such as a Triumph Dolomite Sprint, BMW 320 Turbo, Toyota Supra GT, Vauxhall Firenza "Baby Bertha", Jaguar XJS TWR racer, Rover Vitesse and Gp.A BMW M3.

Please don't take it all too seriously. Goodwood Festival of Speed is primarily a fun event, and there is more emphasis on 'Demo' runs than any serious competition. Most of the F1 cars for example turn it into a burnout and donut opportunity to wow the crowds. I think the names of the classes give a sense of the fun element, and the groupings do not always make complete 'period' sense.

Hopefully NickH will chime in on this thread with his own impressions, once his feet come back down to earth...... :-)

Just to follow up on HS30-H's post, I was at Goodwood on the Saturday, and it was a bit fun this time around ( I've been a couple of times now)

As he said, the Streetfighter class contained the Jag etc... in action below with an F1 burnout

That Jag reminds me of the Tom Walkinshaw Jags that ran at Bathurst back in the 80's - For the Aussies on the site - you know back in the day when there were more than just 2 makes of cars (Ford and Holden).

Guys thanks for the pics and keep them coming just love to see old racecars still on the track doing what they were build to do.

  • 3 months later...

A recent edition of 'Wheels' magazine in Australia has an article on Peter Brock and his VK commodore at Goodwood - I didn't know it, but he has/had quite a following in the UK

On another note, I just bought the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2005 DVD... and got my wife to put it away for Christmas (boy that was tough!). Has anyone else viewed this DVD? Does Big Sam get a mention?

On somewhat of a different note, I'm really looking forward to watching the Goodwood Revival on Speedtv. Does anyone know when that will air?

EDIT: Ok, I'm a bit confused now. I was google searching for this and I can't remember which one is Goodwood Festival of Speed, and which is Goodwood Revival. Basically I'm interested in the one with actual wheel to wheel racing.
