Is there such thing as a "smoke bomb"?

Hi guys,

Bit of an obscure question, but I am doing a film for one of my subjects at uni and as a part of it a motorbike breaks down. I'd therefore like to have some kind of small smoke "bomb" that I could place on the bike to make it look like it's pouring out smoke. Does anyone know if such a thing exists and where I might be able to source a couple??

Thanks!

You could use a smoke machine with some flexi pipe to make a stack of smoke wherever you want it. Would only work as a stationary shot though. I remember on one of those worlds worst drivers shows about people putting diesle in petrol engines and making a lot of smoke. Not something to try on a newer bike though.

Any smoke bombs I know of are small and unstable at best.

i kno of little tiny smoke bombs you can buy in firework stores, they make them in many different colors. They also sell smoke bombs for paintball gun wars. Call around to a fireworks shop first because i kno they have them... used to play around with em all the time =) They look like little hard colored balls with a fuse attached (kind of an odd sounding description.... LOL ) They would be perfect :)

Smoke bombs.. sure.. as kids we played with these all the time. You can still get them, usually whereever fireworks are sold.

They're small round (perhaps an inch around) with a little fuse. They come in different colors.

On a bike, if you don't wanna harm any of the finish areas, i'd place one in a small container (think half a beer can), lite it and ride off...

We used to toss them in stairwells or hallways in school (before the politically correct days and '0' tolerance nonsense).

There are several varieties-from the 25 cent variety at the South Carolina fireworks stores across the bridge, to The military cannister type issued to the Rangers stationed at Hunter Army Airfield.

If you guys don't have fireworks shops, use a water pistol to shoot oil based wheel bearing grease in the hot exhaust-instant faux blown engine-andit will burn out leaving the bike unharmed.

Maybe a little atf in the gas...

Sound like a sheep film to me-has Carl asked for a video recreation of his picture?

(couldn't find the thing)

My last response didnt seem to appear. Get a ping pong ball, wrap in alfoil, leaving a little onion like tail at the top to hold onto. Hold lighter underneath till it starts to smoke and you are in business. Thick horrid smelling smoke and lots of it, probably toxic though.

Good Luck

Even better is 2 or 3 ping pong balls, we used to wrap them in aluminium foil as descirbed but mould a foil chimney up the top, about 10cm tall.
