pulling engine/trans together

blackjack

Recommended Posts

I am about to pull my 280zx motor out to put in my 240z. I am not finding the books very helpful that I have.

I know there are bolts that hold the drive shaft to the rear end but it looks like on this 280zx the drive shaft just slips over the splined shaft of the transmission, is this correct? I already pulled the trans. support bracket off and again it just looked like the drive shaft slips over a splined shaft of the transmission.

thanks for any help.

And then put a bucket under the end of the transmission to catch the 90 weight oil that will pour out all over the floor when you tip the engine up to remove it...

Unless you actually READ the instructions that said to drain the transmission first...

YES DO THIS!!! I failed to do so and had a nice mess on my garage floor.

Yea, even after you drain the oil out of the tranny, take a rag and rubberband it over the end of the transmission where the shaft goes in, because as your lifting it out and the tranny is put at an angle, more fluid seeps out of the end, creating something else to clean up
