June 29, 200519 yr Author comment_128907 Anyway, if any come up for sale then I could be interested. But at the moment US or Japan looks to be a better source. June 29, 200519 yr comment_128908 Good to see that somebody else around here is interested in a 280ZX project :knockedou . I say go for it, try and find a coupe but you will be in for a long hard look. If you dont have any luck finding one, just do what Iam doing and rip out the back seats and register it as a 2 seater. June 29, 200519 yr comment_128938 Forgot to say before, dont go for a V6 turbo, go an L28 turbo Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16387-280zx-coupes-in-oz/?&page=2#findComment-128938 Share on other sites
June 29, 200519 yr comment_128942 I agree with the L28Turbo - the L series engine really does lend itself to the Turbo. Also, I know where a 1979 2 seater fairlady 280ZX exists (in Brisbane) - however it has only ever been officially on the market once (approx. late 1999) wanted $7500 - $8500 back then.I have seen THE GENTLEMAN concerned in the last 6 months & I think he will only sell to a collector who will keep it original & will demand top dollar if he in fact decides to sell. Mention modified Z's & you are GONE!!It is a great car - original Japanese car (RHD) & of course has the L20 (2 litre) six cylinder engine with injection, 5 speed gearbox & nominates unleaded fuel only. June 29, 200519 yr comment_128944 You can look over the tasie - there are a few here in NZ - they come up for sale every now and then. Other option - import LHD from US and using 2+2 bits convert to RHD. June 30, 200519 yr Author comment_129026 No, I wouldn't want to modify a really good one anyway, as with the 260 I'd want something with a decent body that is otherwise not collectable As for the L28, at the moment the choice would be a Nissan V6 turbo, probably a VQ30. Would want 400 rwhp, to do that with a L28 reliably and with fair fuel economy would not be cost effective. June 30, 200519 yr comment_129032 Get onto one of the import mobs and have a chat to them. They are before 1988, so you can still bring them in from Japan. Them might come across one in their travels. The companies that bring over drift cars might find a nice one with a few mods already done.
