July 12, 200519 yr comment_130409 I have taken several of the rearview mirrors apart, heat and a window tool work-but I have never been able to get the glass out without marking up the frame. I do have an replacement mirror (the glass)if you are interested. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16409-mirror-how-does-it-come-apart/?&page=2#findComment-130409 Share on other sites
July 12, 200519 yr Author comment_130435 Well I got the glass....or rather I got taken for a ride for the glass. I saw an ebay add for the mirror and missed it. Got emailed back by the guy and he offered me a "2nd chance" at the mirror for my price (since I was 2nd runner up on the bidding). I bought it and waiting 2 weeks. Got it in and found out it was just the glass. So I'm stuck, can't even leave negative feedback. So I have to figure out how to put the glass in the rear view mirror. July 13, 200519 yr comment_130466 I could not find the one I forced apart, but...I think you best answer is to break the old glass, and remove it (this way you will not mar the housing prying it out), use a heat gun-or the sunshine on a hot day to warm the housing up, then fit the bottom of the mirro in the housing, and press the top in. It will snap inand be tightly held captive.Every time I have purchased using second chance, I have been able to leave feedback...Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16409-mirror-how-does-it-come-apart/?&page=2#findComment-130466 Share on other sites

July 18, 200519 yr Author comment_130975 Well I finally managed to get the old glass out and the new glass in my rear view mirror case. Got it back in the car, and now the whole assembly feels loose. I know its held in by little metal grippys between the sunvisors, but it doesn't seem as tight as before. Oy. One thing always leads to another. July 18, 200519 yr comment_131025 Give us some pics of your mirror resto. What did the "glass" cost you? I get mine cut and polished for $7. I have an extra 'rear-view mirror' and I am considering replacing the glass. Did you break the glass out and re-glue? Give us the specifics, OK? July 19, 200519 yr Author comment_131169 I wish I paid only $7....*grumble*....*complain*.... No I paid $40 for a "replacement mirror" and got it only to find it was just glass. But hey, you win some and you loose some. Here's what I did:I used a corner of the steps to break the existing glass and then carefull scapped it out and took out the old Nissan paper inside. Then with a friend holding the mirror and myself holding the mirror casing, I spread it open while he put the top of the mirror in and then we used a rubber-tipped screwdriver to Jimmy it in the bottom. Works fairly well. The replacement glass is not exactly the same size on the sides, since the original was heat-pressed in the case. July 19, 200519 yr comment_131180 I wish I paid only $7....*grumble*....*complain*.... No I paid $40 for a "replacement mirror" and got it only to find it was just glass. But hey, you win some and you loose some. Here's what I did:I notice another auction like this here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=42606&item=4561896277Is it the same seller? If so, I got kind of burned by this guy on shipping. It took a long time and his claim of "As always there are no handling fees and I'll will find you the lowest price possible on shipping" is not true at all. I've now learned to never buy anything unless the shipping is explicitly stated. He also lists his location as in Michigan but he's really in Canada. July 19, 200519 yr comment_131181 That's the one Mike. Kinda misleading. I bought one replacement mirror from him for $30 and it didn't fit correctly. Ended up buying a whole new mirror. MSA & Charlie O. from Zedd have them. July 20, 200519 yr Author comment_131256 Well the edge of the mirror is somewhat noticable on the corners, but its still better than what I had. Of course the $40 I spent was a bit much for a $5 piece of glass, but like I said; its better than what I had.
