Kathy & Rick Posted February 25, 2011 Share #433 Posted February 25, 2011 What sense does it make to have a thread on VIN's, who's going to keep track of all the numbers?Well, actually, Bryan, I had been trying to, since back around 1970-71.Every time I saw a Z I tried to record the VIN and location, and if possible, the build date. I did recognize the futility of it due to geographic consider-ations, but it was a fun thing to do: a "sub-hobby" if you will. I did thiswhile also trying to determine the various cut-off dates of production for:Latest VIN without rear window defrosterEarliest VIN with vertical rear window defrosterLatest VIN with vertical rear window defrosterEarliest VIN with horizontal rear window defrosterEarliest VIN with automatic transmissionLatest VIN with flow-thru air outlets on hatch (Series 1)Earliest VIN with flow-thru air outlets on "C" pillars (Series 2)etc., etc.As attrition set in by about 1980, all the Z Clubs I knew of disbanded. It became quite a rare event to see an S30 Z Car of any type on theroads. At my age, I never had an interest in computers, nor did I seeany need for one. So when, 1-1/2 years ago we got "rediscovered,"I was introduced to the computer so I could see how great was theresurgence in interest in Z Cars, at which time we resumed Z Car activity. And with that, the "sub-hobby" also resumed, but this timewith the assistance of the computer! All Z Best,..........................Kathy & Rick

Reverend Posted March 7, 2011 Share #435 Posted March 7, 2011 Zealous: i noticed that our VIN's are quite close, mine is 69729 and yours is 69726. Maybe our Z's have seen each other in the factory line I'd like to know where yours is purchased originally?
