MONZA Exhaust?

Every time I type in a search for 280Z on Ebay, a listing for one of these invariably comes up.

What I'd like to know is... are they any good? Does anybody have one, or have you heard one? I get the distinct impression that they have a sort of rice-burner sound, but I don't honesty know, so I'm asking.

I just put on a glasspack on my exhaust because it was too loud with just the coffee-can muffler on it. Now it has a nice quieter buzz-hum, and it gets just loud enough around 4000 ROM, which is good for me. Now I can hear the radio.

I still have the coffee-can muffler on it, but I'm thinking about a second glass pack in place of the muffler and a double pipe resonator tip.

The muffler with the two outlets , one over the other was like the origional 240 muffler . Monza is a after market part

Yes, I understand that the MONZA setup is aftermarket, but I'm curious as to whether or not it's of decent quality and/or has a good sound.

Yes, it's a good exhaust... I had one for several years and it was louder than stock. They had two models, the side by side (which was hard to find for the 240Z) and the over and under. The only problem I had with it was that I wanted to go to a larger exhaust after installing headers. Otherwise, I was pleased with it.

Oh, good! Do you think you could do me a favor though?

On a scale of one to ten, could you please rate the tone it produced?

1 being as tinny as a dirtbike, and 10 being as deep-throated as, say, The General Lee... :cheeky:

That's kinda hard to do... It was much better, with a deeper tone than stock. It was not loud so on your scale I would rate it a 5. There was no resonance that I recall, it was just a nice, well balanced system.

I now have a 2.5 inch SS exhaust with a single muffler and that is loud. However, I prefer it to the Monza even though I do have a bit of resonance at certain rpm's.

IMO, you can't go wrong with the Monza system. It is a stock fit, it sounds better than stock, it is not too loud but louder than stock, it looks nice and after having it on my car for about four years it was in good shape when I took it off. Gave it to a fellow Z owner and he used it for three or four years.

However, if you have headers or are thinking about installing a set down the road, I would consider going to a 2.5 or 2- 5/8 inch exhaust and then select a muffler that produces the sound you like.

Hi

I was considering Monza just because of the two pipes looks. Don't they look cool? Then I called BritishVicotria, ask them diameter of the exhaust. They told me it was less than 2 inch. It was a girl I was talking to. So I decided to go for MotorSports exhaust insted since I wanted 2.5. Is is true that Monza's pipe is that small?

The lady at Victoria Bristish knows what she is talking about. The Monza is a stock diameter....

If you are going with a 2.5 you may also want to consider headers in order to maximise flow.... I see you are using trip Solex's. If that's the case, I would really recommend you put a set of headers on with the 2.5....
