October 20, 200519 yr comment_142396 Just the other day there was a message on the news here in town that one of the local police departments had started using LOJACK. There was a car stolen and they found it within a hour of the theft. The owner had only owned the car for a short while and dident even know it was protected by Lojack. the local Dept had just activated there systime that day . Good timing ! Gary By the way the car had a automatic trans its common for a for a car dealership to "pre load" the entire lot of cars with lojacks, not only as a sales tool, but as a theft deterrent. cars get stolen off car lots quite often. if it was a used car, unless the prior owner was the one who had the lojack installed, and informs the party buying the car its pretty common for this to happen that someone dosnt even know they have a lojack...but it keeps working regardless weather you know you have it or not. soon as the guy gave the cops the VIN / reported it stolen it was active Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16531-worriedhow-do-u-protect-ur-z-from-being-stolen/?&page=6#findComment-142396 Share on other sites

October 20, 200519 yr comment_142504 Sorry about that guys, its been kinda hectic lately. anyways, theres the simple diagram just 4 wires...and a diode. any local radio shack or electronic store should have the parts, or even the local stereo / alarm shop...for just a couple bucks...all you need is a 1 amp diode but a bigger one wont hurt. try to get a bosch or potter brand. relay wiring diagram diode relay Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16531-worriedhow-do-u-protect-ur-z-from-being-stolen/?&page=6#findComment-142504 Share on other sites
October 20, 200519 yr comment_142511 ...snip...anyways, theres the simple diagram just 4 wires...and a diode.any local radio shack or electronic store should have the parts, or even the local stereo / alarm shop...for just a couple bucks...all you need is a 1 amp diode but a bigger one wont hurt. try to get a bosch or potter brand....Lance, is the diagram you're posting only for use with a car alarm's output or is a diode required if you were to just use a switch to power the relay and hence the pump?Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16531-worriedhow-do-u-protect-ur-z-from-being-stolen/?&page=6#findComment-142511 Share on other sites
October 21, 200519 yr comment_142541 Lance, is the diagram you're posting only for use with a car alarm's output or is a diode required if you were to just use a switch to power the relay and hence the pump?Enriquewhat type of switch are we talking about? a simple on / off mechanical switch? or ignition switch? or?the diodes are mainly used for alarm or keyless entry or valet type modules, because these are electronically controlled "switches" inside the unit. unlike a "real" switch that mechanically and decisively disengages, they can still give off residual output even after turned off. the outputs normally only operate in the milliamps (100ma-500ma) range when armed/activated, but it just takes a few milliamps to trigger these relays sometimes. October 21, 200519 yr comment_142551 I have a hidden switch that shuts off the power to the ignition. It would be pretty hard to find it, if you didn't know where to look. October 21, 200519 yr comment_142564 protected by 8mm and 7.62x54r! NICE carbine. I own an M91-30 with a 1945 production stamp. Not as easy to handle as that one, but the sight of the foot and a half long spike bayonet on the end gets people's attention...at the range or otherwise. EDIT: Folding bayonet...M1944?
