I have a 73 240Z and the glovebox door is broken at the hinges. It appears that the "hinges" are just plastic that is able to bend to enough for the glovebox door to be opened and closed. My 72 parts car looks the same, and the hinges on it are broken as well.

Is there some way to fix these hinges, or where can I get a replacement for them?

That's strange. I'm positive my '72 has a metal piano-style hinge. I've never seen plastic. Can you post a picture?

The 72 is a parts car, so who knows what pieces have been mixed around. So some years have metal piano type hinges and some years have these plastic one's I'm referring to? Maybe the fix is for me to just purchase a metal hinge. Do I need a Nissan specific hinge, or can I use something from a local hardware store?

You could try looking through McMaster-Carr's online catalog under 'piano hinge' or 'continuous hinge'. They have them in steel, aluminum, brass, & plastic.

BTW, my '75 280Z's glove box door has a plastic hinge. Build month 5/75, HLS30-216514.

You might try your local Home Depot. They carry piano hinges.

I have fixed a plastic hinge from a 71 door with two small cabinet hinges and some pop-rivets. I had to notch the metal 'cover' that goes over the plastic and has the mtg. screw holes in it. This keeps the geometry of the hinge intact.

Thanks for the info and the picture. Your picture shows a glovebox door that is pretty much identical to the one's in my '73 and '72 parts car. Great solution!

Well what do you know. All this talk about a plastic hinge made me go back and actually look at mine. It is plastic. What confused me is that there's a metal frame that covers most of the plastic. I distinctly remembered that part as it's what is used to secure the door to the dash. The plastic part itself is actually the entire inside panel of the door.
