Seat suggestions??

Hey everyone....

I got a question for the board... I'm in my final phase of R&R of the 240... One of the last major interior things I need to do is either replace or referb the passenger, and drivers seat.

A local shop that sells after market seats also will R&R the orginals, new seat webbing, foam, covers... The cost is about 600/seat, the mechcanisim that raises and lowers the seat back is pretty worn, and I always have to adjust it up cuz it always lowers it self back down.

The shop carries Corbeau, Recaro, and a few others... Should I have the stock seats R&R, or get new after market's ?? The only ones that seemed to fit me well were the Recaro's, the Corbeau seats were too narrow in the shoulders, and in the hip/butt area, and I'm not a big person by any means.

So if you have any suggestions, and or opinions let me have em!!

Thanks

You can redo the originals yourself for a lot less (new covers, new foam, new webbing). I can't answer the mechanical problem you're having but the mechanism is fairly simple and you could even move the hardware from an otherwise trashed original seat. While I used covers from another source many people feel that these are the closest to original:

You'll note that seat covers here are $210 for a pair and the foam is $100 for each seat. $410 plus a few hours of your time is way less than the $1200 that you're looking at.

i was always content with my orignal seats, untill...... the day i got a ride in charles juckett's skyline. the skyline seats are far away superior and allow you to stay "in house" with the product line. i look forward to a set for my car as they are for many reasons the best choice in my book. good luck.

btw i paid $1000.00 for two toned leather/vinyl, rewebbed and new foam with shift boot, e brake boot and sunshades "to boot". he also coverd my door handles and arm rests. your guy might be worth $600.00 but he better be good. i hope he's worth it.

My blew/blough/blue seats are in great shape, externally. However, the "straps" under the seats are both blown out. I see some repair kits for these seats advertised for 19.95. What kind of job is it to put in new straps? Do I need to remove the seat covers? Or???? :cross-eye

you can also get the wide versions of the Corbeau , if the Recaros fit the best , try getting a set from either a bmw or vw that is newer and wrecked , and just the proper rails for the 240z

U could get some nice recaros out of the e30 m3 bimmer. But those are power seats. I think they also have some in manual thou. The seats do look really nice in that car thou. Here is an idea of what they look like. Getting these seats for my z was the original idea but my dad said he wanted it to be original. :ermm:

The problem you run into is that the 240Z has only a very narrow space within which any seat will fit, slide fore/aft and recline properly.

With any aftermarket, or used seat, you'd want to assure they are narrow enough to fit in a 240-Z. Seat height is also a major consideration - you can wind up not being able to get your legs under the steering wheel if the replacement seats are too high.

The seats you use depend on what you want to do with the car of course... rebuilding the original seats keeps the car "stock"... but they really do leave a lot to be desired when you are on a longer road trip, or using the car for competitive events.

For "Grand Touring" use {ie longer road trips}... you want a seat that offers proper support without being overly restrictive. I'm very happy with the Acura seats I put in my 240-Z. The side bolsters on the Recaro's I had were too pronounced..
