Posted July 16, 200519 yr comment_130835 I have two (dual) SU carburetors but, I cannot find any part/model number on the SU's to identify what they are for. I posted a few pictures in hope that someone can recognize them for me. These SU's are new and never mounted. Thanks for your help drdufty@midmich.net Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16584-su-carb-identificaton-help/ Share on other sites
July 16, 200519 yr comment_130836 They look like 4 screw round tops from an early 240. But I doubt they have never been used. Look at the side of the piston. Looks like the usual accumulation from gasoline. Also, I'm a little confused by the banjo fitting. I haven't seen that on SUs before, especially since I already see the rubber fuel inlet connected as well as the breather. On mine there are only 2, not 3 connections. These have been setting on a shelf for a long period of time Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16584-su-carb-identificaton-help/#findComment-130837 Share on other sites

July 17, 200519 yr Author comment_130930 This carb was upside down when I took the photo. The two photos though is the same carburetor and is showing the front and back side view of it. I have two of these carburetors plus the fuel lines to link them together. July 18, 200519 yr comment_131034 Hard to tell from looking but I can say they are 38mm from the 2 bolt mount. If they are Hitachis (metric) they came on either SSS 1600 JDM 510s or 1600 roadsters. If they are 1 1/2" SUs they could have come off anything. They look very Hitachiiiiii..... July 18, 200519 yr comment_131035 yeah ddufty. like I said in reply to your gallery post - 1.5" bore carbs off of a 510, Roadster or some other Dat with the smaller bore SUs.michael Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16584-su-carb-identificaton-help/#findComment-131035 Share on other sites
July 18, 200519 yr comment_131046 I commented to your photo. It's a rear carb off a 1969 1600 roadster. The bowls are reversed from the 510 models, the 411 SSS and the 68 roadster did not have the recirculation valve. the 1970 roadster had a nipple, not a banjo for the bowl vent. July 18, 200519 yr comment_131055 You can tell the bore size from the mounting flange. 1.75" (46mm) SU's have 4 mounting holes in the square pattern like the Z's - called HS6 type. HS4's are 1.5" (38mm) and have 2 mounting holes at 45 degrees like the one shown. HS2's are 1.25" I think (32mm?) and also have 2 mounting holes but in a vertical pattern not 45 degrees like these. I don't know of any HS2 size hitachi's used for Datsuns - anyone? Here's a little page I started making but kinda gave up 1/4 way through. It's got some SU carb pics (snagged from ebay) that may be useful.http://datsunprojects.org/mps210/carbs/michael Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16584-su-carb-identificaton-help/#findComment-131055 Share on other sites
