Hey everyone, I just need a real quick favor. When I got my 280Z, the battery did not have the little device to secure it and is being held in by a bun-gee chord. I found what I think is the little bracket on a 75 280Z in a salvage yard on the floor in the car. I want to get it, but I cannot find how this is used to secure the battery. Question one, is this little bracket going to be the same on my 77 as it is on this 75? And if its possible, could you post a picture of yours so I can see how this thing works. I've been looking online for some time now and cannot find a good pic of this battery area. My Haynes maual also says nothing. Thanks.

Probably. Mines not rusty, just looks junky because its got the bungee chord holding in the battery. ghetto.

hahaha... my 280z doesnt even have a battery support ... havent put to much though into it (still in restoration). Wish i could help you out but im not quite sure

Is this what you are asking about? According to the microfiche (fiche section 126) it was used thru approx. 05/77. So if you got it off of a 75 you should be good to go...Suggest you sandblast it real good and put some POR-15 on it if you get it...

Well, the long skinny bolt thing looks the same, but the other part is different. The thing from this car looks like a wide letter "H" with the far sides look something like little angle iron ends connected by a middle piece. Looks like it fastens across the top of the battery? I'm still looking for a pic.

No one has any pics? Oh well. If you every get a chance to get a picture that would be great. I know I wasn't very descriptive of what this thing looks like.

Nice new ones at MSA. Even the J bolt in gleaming Zinc Dichromate. Round your order off with a new tray and there's one place in the car that's done!

From your description, the "H" shaped battery hold down is probably a generic aftermarket item. I've seen some that fit that description at the local auto parts stores.

The photo that Webdawg1 posted is what you want. Victor's post gives you a source for purchasing the battery hold down. His suggestion of purchasing the battery tray, too, is a good one.
