Posted July 18, 200519 yr comment_131021 I now have the car running and it sounds good. All vacuum hoses replaced, new NGK plugs, new valve cover gasket. I noticed that coolant is seeping from the block at the cylinder head (where they meet) near the #6 cylinder (near firewall) on the passenger side. Does this sound like a blown gasket or is this a sign of a cracked block or head? When I changed the plugs I noticed that this cylinder's plug was the cleanest of the bunch (no carbon). The car is not overheating. Any guidance is appreciated Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16604-cracked-block-or-bad-gasket/ Share on other sites
July 18, 200519 yr comment_131032 Probably a bad gasket, cracked blocks/heads on these engines are not a common occurance. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16604-cracked-block-or-bad-gasket/#findComment-131032 Share on other sites
July 18, 200519 yr comment_131060 The only way to truly find out is to remove the cylinder head, which is probably what you need to do anyway, as you don't want the problem to get worse. Here are some things to look for:Signs of water/coolant in the oilWhite, billowy smoke emitting from the exhaustMoisture in the PCV valve hoseThese were a few of the signs when the cylinder head on my '73 developed a problem. The engine in my car had coolant leaking into a few cylinders. I ended up having the engine completely rebuilt.Hope this helps! July 18, 200519 yr comment_131061 Mine leaks a little in that exact same spot. It still runs fine, but I am told its the head gasket. Sometimes it leaks really bad, but other days you don't even notice it.
