Installing an amp, easy or hard?

First, try one thing. On one speaker, reverse the wires and then listen to it again. If the speaker is wired up wrong, the sound waves (especially the lower frequencies) cancel each other out and you have little volume. Simple mistake, easy to fix and check before you spend some $$$.

Already checked the polarity of the wiring for the speakers, and there was no volume change with reversed wiring.

The headunit is supposedly rated at 45 watts... I'll grab the manual and glance through it, looking for info about speaker compatibility.

I already have the the fade almost all the way into the back, and the front speakers are STILL tons louder than the back ones.

I'll take a look at the ratings for the front and back speakers again then report.

45 watts? That kinda weak. Maybe thats why then. 45 watts isnt enough power man. You said they were 100watts. Maybe u should beef up the headunit a bit. 45 isnt gona do much. I was using 200watt headunit and that was a beuity. Powered all those speakers i mentioned before. Probobly not to the speakers full potential but the speakrers hit hard. Maybe instead of getting an amp just get a better head unit. less trouble and less wires. If u still want to go with the amp thou i'm ready to help! :)

Well... I feel like an idiot now... :ermm:

As it turns out, my head unit has a mode called FIE (or something like that) which deliberately makes the volume of the rear speakers significantly lower than those in the front... so, yeah... needless to say I turned that off...

Despite all that though, my rear speakers still needed replacing, so I managed to snag a bitchin' pair of 8-inch woofers from a local surplus store. So, with the addition of those I finally have a sound system I can be pleased with, at an expenditure I can be pleased with. The speakers were $12.50 a piece, and have great low-frequency sound (the car vibrates a little bit at low bass), as well as pretty good mid-range sound. I leave my front speakers to handle the high and mid frequencies.

The only real drag is that I can't actually "install" the 'new' speakers because of their size, so right now they're just sorta wedged in there so that they won't move around too much. Eventually I'll probably build little boxes for 'em, but right now I think they'll be okay.

Thanks for your help guys, even if I was the one to blame for this little snafu. :knockedou

its cool. No worries. live and learn.

I picked up a nice system for my z as well. I have a 200watt head system, two 4" 200watt comonents speakers and 2 1" tweeters at the bottom of my feet, two 220watt 6x9s where the storage compartments are, 2 100 4x6s way back there for the hell of it, and 3 10"s subs each at 500watts in the back and all the subs to power that stuff. I just need to get my car back dynamat everything put the new upholstery in while running some brand new wires underneth. That system should hit hard without rattling (cause of the dynamat). Idk if i need to reinforce my windows or not though. :stupid: We'll find out.

I;ll post pics when i'm putting the system in!!!!
