Posted July 22, 200519 yr comment_131541 I read in here some time ago about someone who had installed the entire rear suspesion cradle (diff, axels, brakes, wishbones, etc) from a R33 skyline into a 240z, can't find any info on it now though. Has anyone else done this conversion? Would like to know how much fabrication is needed etc. sure would make for a bullet proof rear end!!! July 22, 200519 yr comment_131544 I have no answer for your question but I love your user name. That was the name of a project I started but never completed a few years back. July 22, 200519 yr comment_131551 HiI think that would be agreat if you could. My theme to Z is that keep the orignal design, but upgrade mechanically to the latest technology. Isn't that cool to see a stock looking z that beats all latest sports cars? July 23, 200519 yr comment_131618 There was a 240Z featured in the July 2004 issue of Fast Fours. It has the complete rear IRS from a R33. It's a NSW car. Doesn't say how much fabrication, but it had to be narrowed to fit, and the Z shell was unaltered, so I'd expect a fair bit of modding. July 23, 200519 yr comment_131628 Yeah the car you're probably talking about is a very very tidy car. He goes to a few of the Z car shows and puts mirrors under the rear end of his car so you can see the beauty underneath! Good idea. Great car! Sorry, I don't know the owner personally. I think this is the car. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16656-r33-suspension-in-240z/#findComment-131628 Share on other sites
July 23, 200519 yr comment_131634 That's the one. Highly engineered car. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16656-r33-suspension-in-240z/#findComment-131634 Share on other sites

July 23, 200519 yr Author comment_131668 Yeah that is the one! Would love to know what it handles like with this conversion. Had a look under an r33 and it does appear to have a wider track than the 240 and it also has a second set of mounts towards the front of the car that would have to be fabricated. The other thing to consider would be the length of the shocks/struts, if they were the same length they should bolt straight in if you used a camber adjustment plate to convert the 3studed strut tops to 2 studded? July 24, 200519 yr comment_131792 As said, it can and has been done. But it adds considerable weight just with the cradle. Plus substantial mounting points would have to be engineered into the car, more expense and weight, at the back of the car too which is worse. The stock Z rear suspension is good and matches the front well, it can be upgraded with no weight penalty to perform very well, better than any road car will ever fully exploit. As a performance mod it is not the best way nor that effective. Agreed, at the nationals it didn't seem like it was performing any better than the stock Z's but that could be the driver and I guess the fact it's more of a show Z than a track Z. I think one of the best performing Z's at the Nationals was the early orange 71 with the l24 and tripple solex's. July 25, 200519 yr comment_131905 I'm not knocking the Sydney car, its a beautiful job. But for the reasons given ^ such a conversion is not a good option from a performance point of view Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16656-r33-suspension-in-240z/#findComment-131905 Share on other sites
