My engine is really dull. I want to chrome everything!!!!! A freand showed me a method but i want to know what people with zs have done to get everything shiny. Like ur valve cover, brackets, all that little stuff too. I dont really want to take it to a place to chrome i would rather do it myself. I'm prepared to take the engine apart. And chrome everything.

1-What tools do i need? I can get whatever toold i need.

2-What procedures did u use?

3-Did u sand? wet or dry? a little of both?

4-what polishs are best?

5-after everything is pretty....how do u keep it that way?

PLEASE LET ME KNOW! MY ENGINE IS UGLY!!!!!

I want to make it look like these (these are of members of this forum btw)

YOU NEED TO JUST TAKE OUT A LOAN AT THE CREDIT UNION AND TAKE THE PARTS TO THE CHROMER . IF YOU POLISH THE ALUMINUM IT WILL TARNISH AND NEED TO BE POLISHED AGAIN AND AGAIN . CHROME YOU WYPE OFF AND KEEP CLEAN AND YOU ARE DONE . IF WHAT YOU WANT, IS LIKE THE PICTURES THEN CHROME THE PARTS.

If you want chrome, that is one thing. If you want to polish everything, that is different. You can polish steel, but it will rust unless clear coated. You can polish aluminum, but it will tarnish unless clear coated. If you chrome everything, you CAN'T do that at home without a serious investment in chrome tanks/chemicals. A chrome setup to do big enough parts on your car is about $6500. I would take it to a chromer if I were you. If you "need" to have everything chromed, then you can afford to have it done right.

MSA has chrome valve covers with exchange for your old one.

Check MSA for prices . Who do you think we are here ? I know you have a Bemer , SO , I am not impressed. Now you have a Z that is a different matter.

Bemmerguy, I think what's happened here is a lack of communication.

Some of the time the "old timers" are used to responding to calls for help by suggesting that the person look to vendors for parts, but forget that the person calling for help doesn't know the abbreviations for the vendors we use. MSA stands for Motorsport Auto. It's kind of like us "old timers" trying to understand highly abbreviated thread responses from young guys like yourself. KWIM (no what I mean)? If you don't understand something, say so and ask for clarification. There really is no such thing as a dumb question. We've all been there!

Also, when someone signs up with the club, the rest of us somewhat expect the new guy to make an effort to help themselves by way of searching around the site, using a manual like the one offered in this site's store, and being gracious to the people who do help them out, by thanking them. This may be a "Z family", but no one here is obligated to answer a bunch of questions that could obviously have been answered with a quick search. Using all of the tools at your disposal will go a long way to successfully completing your quest for help, and getting along with everyone at the same time. Good spelling and grammer in your postings would help too.
