I have been a reader of the threads here for a while but this is my first post. My name is Brian and I live in San Diego, Ca. I have a '71 Skyline that I brought in from Japan late last year. I have pretty much torn it down and rebuilt most of the essentials. My car, like most other KGC10's, is a full GT-R clone. It is actually a GT-X with the power windows and such. The drivetrain was pretty much standard when I got it but now there is an RB26 in it's place. The suspension is full comp now with 17 x 8 front and 17 x 9 rear wheels shod with race tires. I pulled out the Nismo R180 and installed a Kaaz R200 with 280ZX turbo C.V. joints and a full 5 lug conversion using parts from an '86 300ZX. I have Wilwood brakes on all four corners and just recently finished the motor and tranny mounts. Here are some pics of the progress. I have started with the day I picked it up from the port. The next are of a trip to a local car show. All the rest are of the rebuild over the last 8 months.

Brian, welcome to the club. Your car is great. I have seen two C10's in LA up close and the body style is awesome. I think a lot of people here love the look of the C10, but they don't fully realize the aggresive look of the car until they see it in the flesh. It is magnificant.

Like most people have said, you are doing a great job on your Skyline and it is going to really be a track weapon. Your car is one of 4 that I know of in the states. There has to be more. Keep up the great work.

Ah yes. I remember your car, Brian. Saw it up close at last years Mossy Nissan Show. I see that you've done alot with it since then. I've always been a fan of the Skyline as well as other seldom seen Datsuns (in the US) such as the Silvia, Gloria, Cedric, etc. You'll notice that all of your replys come from Australia and one from Japan. I love to see that 'all Skyline' show. Maybe you guys could let me bring my 810 2dr. and park it off to the side somewhere with Les's Silvia.

Who's Les and what's his Silvia look like? Got any photos?

Two years ago he bought one of the very few CSP311 Silvias in the US. It's kind of rough, but I have confidence that when Les decides to restore it, it will be right.

Thanks for the welcome. There are four other two door Hakosukas and two four door versions that I know of. One four door is in Texas, the other is in Victorville, Ca. There are the two two door cars that you mentioned up in L.A., then there is one in Birmingham, Al. and one in Fla. The one in Florida is the one that was in Super Street magazine a couple years back. He was making these rediculous claims about his car through the entire article. He claims it is a GT-R that is 99.9% original and worth some crazy amount of money. I actually exchanged words with him on another Nissan site. Rocky Auto seems to have quite a lot of old cars in good shape. I have not been there, but I have see their advertisements.

I started dealing with Uchida Motor Works in Tokyo for my car. Uchida-san just sent a Skyline to America for a Japanese person who has been living there for several years. Looks like one more GC10 in America soon.

Yahoo! Japan (web site (http://www.yahoo.co.jp/) has quite a lot of nice cars for auction. Car Sensor (web site http://www.carsensor.net/cgi-bin/CS/CSTOP.cgi?STID=CS0GNAVI&TRCD=TR001) also has a lot of cars. If you can decipher the Japanese, it's great. If you have Windows, you can install the IME function that will let you type Japanese characters for even better results.

The guy Brian refers to in the previous post has his web site here: http://www.71skylinegt-r.com. If you read the threads in Brian's post, it's all true. The car is a clone and is not 99.9% original. When I first came to Japan 4 years ago, REAL GTRs were going for about $75,000.00. Recently, though the prices have dropped to $40,000.00-$50,000.00. Sluggish Japanese economy, perhaps?

Thanks for the links and info. I do remember reading the exchange between Brian and the other guy, as Brian pointed out, all it would take to confirm his claim is a pic of the chassis rail stamped prefix...oh well.

My Skyline is also a '72 GT-X (GT-R Clone) very similar to Brians before the upgrades, so I enjoy reading anything you have to say about them.

Another thought Miles,...if someone was after parts, badges etc for the KGC10 and KGC110, are you a possible alternative to Yahoo .JP? mainly GT-R clone bits, over fenders, stuff like that. :classic:

I think this photo is great! really catches the agressive stance/look of the KGC10 and is enhanced by the modern vehicles around it!

Thanks Brian for that information on the Nissan forums. I was so intrigued by what you had to say on that thread that I registered for that forum. Thanks. The four door GC10 that I saw in LA was owned by a military man out of Okinawa, and it was a beautiful Skyline.

The one KGC10 I have seen was also in LA as I mentioned before and it was a little rough, but still a Beauty. I am pretty sure that it is a GT-X. I think I remember seeing the electric window switches, but I am not sure.

The four door in the picture is owned by a friend of a friend. I believe the guy is named Chuck, but it's been a while. The two door in the pics is a '72 GT-X that another friend of mine brought in last year. That particular picture was at the Z car convention last year at Nissan headquarters. That car was then bought by Marcos at "The SR20 Store". I have spoken with him a few times and he seems pretty cool. I have told him of my idea about getting the Skylines together. The pictures of Les' Silvia are from last years Mossy Nissan Show in Oceanside. Here is the story of that car. Apparently it was actually originally purchased from a Nissan dealership in Hawaii in '66 or so. The word is that it is the actual New York Auto Show display car from '65. After the show, on the way back to Japan, the car made a stop in Hawaii where an employee at Honolulu Datsun offered to buy it. Les got word of it some five years ago and bought it. It is very rough, and missing several original parts including the hood and bumpers. Rust is not that bad, and the interior is surprisingly nice. I talk with Les from time to time and he told me he does not have enough original parts to do a proper restoration on it, so it will eventually get a set of Panasport rims, a five speed, and most likely a 2 liter engine. Sort of a "resto mod".

Uchida Motor Works is a company here that specializes in repair, restoration and modification of C10 Skylines, although there is a S30 Fairlady Z in his shop. Web site here: http://homepage1.nifty.com/umw/ You have to wait a minute or so until the picture changes before you can get in. It's all in Japanese, but Altavista's Babelfish or similar will give you a rough translation.

For parts, I usually deal with the Nissan Parts Distribution Center. They still have parts available for the C10. If they're NLA, then Yahoo is the best bet. Rubber Soul is another shop that I know of. Web site here: http://www.rubber-soul.net/ Again, all in Japanese. This guy sells on Yahoo! Japan. He comes recommended to me, but I can't recommend because I've not had any dealings with him yet.
